Hi all,
One of my darling furbabies has just been diagnosed with Acute Renal Failure. She is a 2 1/2 year old purebred Birman and is generally a very happy, healthy and lively cat. On Tuesday night she was vomitting several times, on Wednesday she was lethargic, not eating, drinking a lot and seemed a bit "out of it". We took her to the vet on Wednesday evening where she stayed the night.
Vet called us on Thursday afternoon and advised us that we could collect her, that she'd probably just eaten something odd and gave us some cat laxatives to give her. We followed the vet's instructions. She was still lethargic but seemed a little better than when we took her in. The vet had told us to monitor her for a couple of days before bringing her back in if no improvement.
On Friday she was back to being lethargic, tired and drinking a lot again. She ate about a teaspoon of chicken (unlike her, she's usually a big guts) and then just lied down near the water bowl. On Saturday morning I could bear it no longer and decided to take her back to the vet, on Saturday afternoon the vet contacted us with the news that she has Acute Renal Failure. He said the prognosis is 50/50.
Needless to say, my husband and I are devastated. Our other cat is pining for her. We are so scared that we are going to lose our gorgeous girl, the only cat I have ever had since a kitten.
I'm hoping that some readers out there can comfort me with some stories of cats that have made it through, as at the moment I am feeling bewildered, confused and shocked.
