Is this normal "heat" behavior?

My seven month old kitty had a genetic disorder when she was born, so we were told not to get her spayed until she had gone through heat for the first time. Well, we are pretty positive she is going through heat this week (odd meows, bottom in air/nose to ground/tail twitching, squirrely activity). However, it only happens occassionally. I thought when a cat was in heat that it was continuous? Is it normal for it to be off and on; maybe twice per day?

At seven months old, this is probably her first estrus cycle and they can be sporadic and not like normal cycles. Talk to your vet and see if he will spay soon. And by the way, what genetic disorder does your kitty have that the vet would suggest waiting until after her first cycle? I have never heard of this and am quite curious.

She was born without a body wall surrounding her intestines! However, as she has gotten older, our vet believes that she may have actually grown one. We are still unsure. She will be spayed on Tuesday morning; I hope all is well!

Ah, ok, thanks for the explanation ... and I will keep your little one close in my thoughts on Tuesday morning.

Coincidentally, my girl, Lexus, is also going in to the vet Tuesday morning - for a dental cleaning. I know I am going to be a wreck until she's home again.

Yours,

Oh that is excellent news! What did the vet say about her genetic deformity? Did she in fact grow the intestinal wall as your vet hoped she would?

On an unrelated note, my little Lexus wasn't able to have her dental cleaning as we had hoped. *sigh* I am so frustrated with the vets in my area anymore. I just can't seem to find a good one who is willing to accept my patronage. The climate in my area is so very anti-breeder and well, I am a breeder. I have to travel nearly 40 miles and pay three times what the vets in my immediate area charge in order to see a vet who works with breeders. So many around here won't/don't.

I am so glad everything went well with your little girlie-girl. And you can breathe now! *grin* She is home and safe.

Yours,

~gf~
