Things I don't like:
- getting an application in the mail yesterday from the AARP

- my joints sometimes decide they don't feel like functioning smoothly, so why don't I just slow down already? (cause I don't wanna slow down!)
- why can't my hair just be white already, what is it with the mousey brown that looks the color of my dark brown tabbie's hair balls??
(Thank heavens for "little boxes of color")
- why does my spice shelf now have so many pill bottles???

Things I like:
- the perspective I've gained, and even a little patience
- this stubborness which can be a real asset when times are tough
- friends from my 20's are now friends of almost 30 years

- finally being able to celebrate a 10th weddng anniversary later this year
- a lot of who I have become along the way.

You and me both Pat. I don't like how my legs don't respond well when I go out for a walk. How my bones hurt when it is cold. I do wear my gray hair proudly. I don't think I will ever cover it up. I guess I am funny that way, but it reminds me of all I have overcome and all that has resulted because of the journey. I miss not being able to lift a hay bale higher than my knees without help. But I love the foot massages at night, and the kitties that curl up next to me in bed and the man I have chosen to grow old with.

So Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to you ~ You and I are in the same boat this year and thank God it isn't sinking!

Hi

This almost to turn 44 year old knows of what you speak.I miss fast recoverys, and being able to skip sleep without issues. But I also like my inner peace and my new found ability to express myself.

I still have a year to go before I am in full "muse mode"...but I must admit, I do not in the least feel old. I truly believe it has something to do with working on an Orthopedic Unit for 20 years. Most of my patients were 70 and up and I mean UP! Next to them I felt like a new born babe. Luckily my legs are in great shape..I attribute that also to working on an Ortho unit. Unlike other units you do a lot of lifting, since the majority of your patients can't walk, and running down those halls for 20 years gave me what someone called dancer's legs...great calf muscles. I'm short though, so I guess they are real short dancer's legs! The Rockettes have no competition from me, LOL! Even now, I'm holding down 13 credits (with all those young punks!) and working full time...maybe it helps to be manic..LOL!

You know, I REALLY like the way you put that!
I hope I am as wise and wonderful as both of you, truly. The only thing that scares me is losing good health. They can see gray hair, "character lines", my granny glasses, and everything else, I just want to be healthy.
Aging is never for sissies! And 50 - heck! that is young in our family. All the women have lived above 100 so I regard 50 as quite sexy!

I keep thinking about it, but it's this transition color, it makes me depressed! I love the white (odd thing to say but I'll be sporting hair once it has turned that has new texture as well, and I guess I think it will be fun. I was tight curls as a toddler - my mom is naturally curly, but then went to straight/wavey...the white that shines through even my colored hair now, has a crinkle texture to it, kind of a built in volume to it, and it's stark, crisp bone white...which I like - as compared to grey, though silver grey is stunning). It's true, my hair is one of my slight vanities.

As to your last sentence...amen!

I have my fingers crossed...my dad died fairly young, with parkinsons (he was 69), but both my grandmothers and one grandmother's sisters, all went to their mid 90's (one grandma is still with us!), and I am hoping to take after them.

I rather want a 50th wedding annivesary (with my wits present as well please), but that won't be until I'm 90!

I was musing about this yesterday. I'll turn 48 in May, but mentally I still feel like I'm about 28 or 29 - 35 tops. Half a century sounds so old, but not when you compare it to 80 or 90. My mother-in-law and I were talking about this on Thursday. She'll be 79 this May, and was rather surprised when I said that 10 or 20 years don't make a difference once you're in your 30s to 50s (we were talking about my new colleague). She says there's a world of difference between 70 and 80. So maybe every year counts in your teens and twenties, and again in your seventies or eighties, but not in between?

That's funny, I feel about the same age...27. I can sure tell the difference when I look in the mirror
but the spirit is def. younger than the body looks!
