my little darling kitten has a sore under her chin, which i first noticed as as what looked like a nasty bug-bite. but now seems to be spreding wider and up to her left lip. the vet applied iodene and it seemed to hurt her. the vet said i should check that it not a fungus, but honestly i haven't a clue.

also she has a cough about once a day, i'm hoping she'll get over this, coz i only found her on moday at our local co-op, as a skinny little frame. now she adores the fireplace! otherwise you'll find her panned out in front of the radiator or snuggled in bed.

i would really appreciate tips on the sore on her chin and her coughing. the sore looks like a black crumbly scab that has cracked in one place.

thankyou for your attention,
Soap

I would definitely find a different vet to take her to. What kind of vet tells a person to check for fungus?!?! That is the vet's job! I'm a newbie when it comes to cats, but this sounds serious. Please take her to a different vet ASAP!

Hi Soap,
I would take your kitten to a different vet, it is the vet's job to check for fungus, and he/she is the one with the training to diagnose it! It could be ringworm, it could also be feline acne...a vet should be able to rule out ringworm for you, and say if they feel it may be feline acne. Feline acne requires changing food bowls from plastic to ceramic or metal dishes, and proper cleansing. I havne't had to deal with it in quite some time, so will let others here discuss how they treat it.

When you go to a second vet, mention the cough, have them do a full exam, so they listen to the kitten's lungs and heart and can tell you if they hear any congestion, have any reason to believe your little kitten has an upper respiratory infection or ?
