Am I glad that stuff like that also happens to other people (says the person who tripped over a pigeon not once, but twice!)

Glad you didn't get hurt. That reminds me of when years ago I was leaning way back in my office chair and it went backwards. I was in a corner and I fell against the wall. All my co-workers could see were my feet sticking up in the air. They checked to make sure I was okay before cracking up.

i've done this before, too - either fell out or almost fell out! & i had a student who kept tipping his chair backwards (even after i told him to stop). he went over backwards, hit his head on the edge of the computer desk, & had to get stitches! so i gues you were lucky you only hurt your dignity!

I once managed to flush a very expensive watch down the toilet because the leather band fell apart at just the "right" moment. That bothered me for years. Then a student managed to lose her cell phone the same way. Two weeks ago, my mother-in-law's bridge fell out and was flushed down (
).
Aside from tripping over pigeons, I've broken bones twice thanks to pets. The first time I was stepping over our Boxer when he decided to get up, and I fell and smashed my ankle against the open dishwasher door. The second time, my parents' Lab was so pleased to see me after an absence of two years that he jumped off the landing of their steps - directly on to my big toe. Talk about smashed. As a teenager, I once managed to get my thumb caught in an expresso cup at a pizzeria, and another time I was feeding "dead" clams to seagulls at the beach when one of them closed and broke my finger. I'm such a klutz that I'm absolutely thrilled when other people relate similar experiences!
