My Wallace LOVES grass whereas my other cats could care less. When it's nice outside (I live in Minnesota so no grass now) he sneaks out (that's another story) and the first thing he does is eat grass with gusto and he purrs the biggest purr...he really loves grass. Anyway, why I did not think of this before.... I bought some pet grass at the petstore this past weekend and he is sooo happy. He is just mowing it down. Anybody else's cat eat grass? I know why it's good for them and all but I am wondering why some like it and some don't. He is a longer haired cat, do you think a cat knows when it needs it?

Jamie loves to eat grass. He eats it outside when I take him on his walks, and inside he has a big pot of Cyprus grass on our coffee table to munch on.

Four of mine are rampant grass eaters and I usually have petgrass available for them. I also have two 'sacrafice' house plants that they are allowed to chew on - ones that are safe and attractive and well-chewed. During the summer I will also pick fresh grass from the yard and bring it in for them. They love to roll around in it and chew it for a day or so. One of the other things they like is the powdered barley grass juice called "Barley Cat" made by Green Foods. They will often lick it up dry in a plate, but I usually add a few drops of water to it to make it a juice again. They just lap it up.

Do you get that barley grass at the petstore or at a health food store. I've never seen it before. Thanks.

I have seen it at both places. I believe it is available at PetCo or PetSmart, but I did purchase mine at a health food store.

Here is the website for "Barley Cat" www.greenfoods.com and their toll-free number is 1-800-777-4430 between 9 am and 4 pm PST - they are located in Oxnard, California.

Ingredients are: powdered juice from young barley grass, maltodextrin, sodium acid pyrophosphate, hydrolized poultry liver, dried yeast, ground brown rice, lactose, taurine, soybean oil, garlic and mixed tocopherols.

I know that garlic is not a desired item in cats but this is a tiny amount and is not fed in the quantities as a food so shouldn't have some of the problems attributed to garlic.
