I recently moved into the girlfiends house. I have cat, she has dog.

theyhave been together now for about 3 weeks. the cat seems right at home but he still hisses and attacks the dog. the dog is about the same size as cat. if i am holding the dog and take him close to my cat he will sniff him up close but when they make eye cantact the cat gets mad a little. the dog s fine with the cat. he is just a little scared of him. has anyone tried the cages together technique. where u put them both in there cages and place them close together so they can see each other. leave them there for a bit....does this work. does someone have any other ideas for getting them or a t least my cat to like him?

thanks

First of all, I think you better stop "forcing" the dog on the cat. It's more stressful to both animals.
I found this site which may help you. Good luck!

Try the cage thing. I think they will get use to each other eventually

Please don't put them in a cage together. That is a disaster waiting to happen! If the dog is obedience trained, you do supervised visits together. With you in control of the dog with choke collar and lead. You want to trim the cat's nails first before this meeting. Keep the dog on the lead, at a sit and stay, and put the cat in the room. Make the exposure to each other no longer than ten minutes at a time at first.

Also give the cat a blanket to sleep on, then after 24 hours give the blanket to the dog, then keep switching them off and on to blend the scents. If the cat isn't into sleeping on the blanket do some interactive playtime on the blanket so the cat's scent gets on it.

Don't rush the intros, remember that if this were done outside, the two are natural enemies. But cats and dogs can get along as Brandy and Gulliver prove below.
