It figures! I finally get Chesters URI cleared up, and most of his pink eye, and now this happens. This afternoon I was reading my book in my room and Chester vomited. I had just finished brushing his teeth for the first time, so I figured it had something to do with that. I walked over to clean it up and there were 6-8 long white worms squirming around on the ground. After doing a "ewww dance" and being totally grossed out, I went downstairs and called the vet. She asked me to collect one. You can only imagine the dance that caused, but I did it like a good little pet owner. She sold me some pills, and told me how to dispence of them and told me to come back in 2 weeks.
I'm still sooo grossed out, these little babies were 4-6 inches long (roundworm, I'm pretty sure). After reading some past posts I'm pretty sure that I'm realitively safe against getting it...even though Chester has woken me up by licking my lips some mornings.
I think I'm going to go and take a shower, somehow I feel dirty

I know the "ewww dance" very well
The first time Ivo vomited some up I poked them-with my bare fingers!. I'm not sure if you can get roundworms from kitty kisses, but I would make sure to wash my hands well after cleaning the litterpan, as well as cleaning the litterpan very well each time you change it.

You would really have to be sloppy dirty to get worms from cats. Wear rubber gloves anytime when handling the litter pan or dirty litter and make sure and wash your hands before and after, also after you pet your cat, be sure and wash your hands. Roundworms are nasty to look at, I can't imagine what the cat goes through when they are inside them. They come out either end, so just be prepared, once the medicine kicks in. There are usually several doses needed of meds for a roundworm invasion.

Thankfully my mom is a dental assistant and I have just gotten a box of laytex gloves coming after work. She gave me 1 1/2 pills, for yesterday and 1 1/2 pills for 10 days later. It then says to bring in a stool sample in 2 weeks, but I'm not sure if thats 2 weeks from the 10 days or 2 weeks from yesterday. I suppose I should give them a call.
I guess I'm glad that we didn't integrate him into the house yet, although I was working on it. I was really looking forward to having a night without him jumping all over me and licking my face/purring every couple of hours. I wouldn't be so bothered by it if he wasn't so dang persistant!
I'm glad to know it's hard to get. We had a case of those short little worms in our house when we were kids. The cats had round after round of them (mostly because MY cat wouldn't take her pills) and then my sister got it from them, so the whole house had to be treated. What I read was that you can't really tell when you have these though, so it's making me nervous. I feel like disinfecting my whole room! It's kind of hard with carpet though. Maybe I'm overreacting, I do that sometimes, especially with gross things like this.

If your worried about it go to the health food store and get some herbal wormer for people. There's this stuff called para-gone which works pretty good. People regularly worm thier pets but not themselves and people can get parasites too!

I remember when Sheba was a kitten-she at that time had the worst case of worms the vets ever saw-she had vomited them up!! The EW dance was popular back then. Of course last yr before Tommie came down with FELV he threw up some medication at the vets office and the vet got grossed out because she never saw worms that BIG!!! So I know what your going thru-I worm my inside outside cats twice a year as one of them hunts.

That's a good idea! I had wondered if worming myself as a precaution was an option. It would certainly get rid of the wonder of the whole situation. Thankfully, Chester has had his second round of pills recently and it appears to me that he is clear of them. I haven't seen any since day one, not even in his stool, given that his litter clings to his "poo's" quite readily.
I'll look into it.
