Hey all, I'm trying to figure out what I *should be* grooming the kits with. Paige seems to tolerate the slicker brush fine, but I'm unsatisfied with the amount of fur she continues to shed even after thorough brushing. Molly also sheds an awful lot, and when using the slicker brush, she seems to get agitated (Admittedly she is hyperesthetic) They both have a double coat.

Ghibli is another problem. he hates the slicker brush, but a dense brush won't get through his long fur.. And the zoom groom seems to pull his fur.

Should I invest in a different type of brush, if so, what sort will work best?
Also, should I invest in a flea comb? There's one at target where the teeth are VERY tight together... and one where they are very wide. Which is appropriate?

They none of them seem to be having an issue with hairballs, however, i want them to be , you know.. not shedding when they walk.

I can't give you any advice on brushes, but a flea comb is great. I have a double-sided one, where the teeth are very close together on one side, and wider on the other, and Jamie actually begs to be combed every day. I start out with the wider side, and then switch. It doesn't get rid of a lot of hair (outer coat), but apparently feels good. Another thing he likes is a dog's "curry brush", which is rubber with short, thin "nubs". I have one in the form of a mitt, and it does get a lot of hair. It's something like this one, but two-sided, with a "fine" and a "coarse" side. http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...=1108064690103

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
Denise whatever one you get i hope they love it as much as mine do with the one i bought on tuesday!.

Rosie especially who i had to walk behind with a soft baby brush just sits on the desk and lets me brush her no problem!!.

I don't know if it's the firm bristles but when i first start brushing her she gives a little jump and headbutts my hand making chirping noises, then she jumps up on the computer table.

I'm so pleased i bought it!

I'm a huge fan of the Zoom Groom. It's the only brush I've found that all three cats will tolerate, and it gets handfulls of loose hair of really fast. (Best of all, if you turn it upside down, you can use it to get the hair off of cat trees and furniture. Picked that up from the ladies at the shelter!) The only downside is it's not effective on long-haired cats.

Anyone have a link to Zoom Groom?

For our Persians and Exotics, we use a wide toothed metal comb, sometimes we use a slicker brush but I don't really like the feel of them.

Google didn't turn up any hits for New Zealand, but it's apparently available in Australia: http://www.vetstop.com.au/shop/shopd...shes+%2F+Combs
I'm not so sure it would work on Persians, though, since it's made for short-haired cats. You might want to try a Zoom Groom for dogs (that's what I have) - it's advertised for short and long hair, and really works well on my mom's one Lab, who is medium-haired.
