I downloaded a virus from TCS!!!
I couldn't believe it!!! But, I did!!! So, I'm telling you all this, so you can be careful of what you open... there's a computer virus lurking out there somewhere!
I'm not going to stop coming on to TCS, I'm just going to watch what I click on!!! I love it too much to stop coming altogether!
But, I'm still very cautious.

Yes, I do, but I had to update it in order to find this virus... luckily, my virus detector quarentined it, so it didn't get "full blown" on my computer, but it still did mess it up a little.

I didn't download anything from TCS.... it was apparently a link that a memeber posted... I don't know exactly where it came from, just that it came from TCS.

I've moved your thread to our Feedback forum. That's where the mods and admins who handle the technical end of the forums check most often for problems. Hopefully one will get in touch with you shortly.

No, I do not... my father did the virus scan, and he just told me it was from TCS... I will ask him tonight when he gets home from work.

Thank-you, and my apologies... I didn't know it was supposed to go to that part of the forum. Once, again, thank-you for moving it.

The anti-virus program we have tells us where it originated from, but not specific.... I don't know where I got it from, just that it came from here somewhere. I don't know if it was a link I clicked on, that's just my guess... I don't know... it was weird.

I think you are mistaken CJ. I don't think you can download a virus from here. We have to many security measures in place, with techs going in daily looking for things amiss. Chances are you have some sort of spyware in your computer where this came from. I could be wrong, but I think we are fairly well protected against viruses here.

I've not gotten a virus from here either - a cookie or two from the advertisers - but no big deal.

Since you dad was so specific - could he just be trying to get you to stay off the computer?

I was thinking that too maybe it has something to do with spyware. But, it could be that your dad just said it came from TCS because he knows thats where you spend your time...

My dad wouldn't do that... I'm homeschooled, and I don't know anyone, and I don't ever have anything to do at the house, and I finally found something I love.... I don't think he'd do that. I'll ask him tonight when he gets home from work if he's sure it was from TCS. Besides, if he wanted that, when I asked him if I could still go on TCS, he said he wouldn't recommend it, but yes, as long as I'm careful to what I clicked on... that doesn't make sense....... I'll ask him tonight and make sure it wasn't spyware.

My virus scanner went into overdrive after I clicked on the link "Why do people do these things" on IMO this evening, and then clicked the link on the site for "similar stories". My software (GData) actually capped my Internet connection, and shut down my computer.

I don't know - I'm not going to try it again. The anti-virus software kicked in when I clicked the "similar stories" link, not while I was reading the article. The software is a bit paranoid. I was reading M.A.'s article about hepatic lipidosis yesterday, and it freaked out over the advertisement for fancy cursors (though I did pick up a virus from downloading one a year or two ago - I don't think it was from the same site).

The only way for this to be possible is if you clicked on a link which took you to an external site. The virus did not originate from the TCS server. If your father has any questions or concerns, he can contact me by email or IM service (information in my profile).

I think that's what happened to me, since I clicked a link, and then there was mayhem. My anti-virus software has managed to block my ISP's software at times - it doesn't like pop-ups at all.
