Okay guys I'm feeling confused. I've only done my taxes on Turbo Tax once before, and my dad was sitting right next to me so I felt okay. But this is my first time doing it alone...

I keep running into a place where it asks me to enter Sales Tax. What? Obviously I haven't bought anything big like a boat, I don't have a mortgage, etc etc... but I can't say no... the options are to tell them how much sales tax I paid or to let them calculate it for me.

So when I let them figure it out... and it says my Sales Tax Deduction is $465. And so they're gonna use that instead of my state and local tax deduction cuz it's bigger.

What is going on? Is this right? Please help! Thanks!

Ari -- this is a new deduction....I believe this will help you in the long run. I let them calculate mine too and mine was smaller than my state and local taxes, so they use the state and local tax for me.

hope that helps.

btw..i love turbo tax and have used it for YEARS (my parents made me start doing my taxes the first year i was working). let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey if it helps... I just want to make sure I'm not screwing up, ya know?

So after you select to let them calculate it, it asks you were you live and which dates. Obviously I've lived in Texas all year. So then it says Sales Tax. In the instructions it says 7.75% so I put that there... does that make sense? Is that right?

Off to class!

Sorry, I really don't have any idea about that so I can't help you.

I was helping Jake to fill up the form to get his refund from the IRS, we got it done and mailed it. When we got home we forgot to enclose his W-2, I think it will take a long time to get his refund.

You know, when I was saving a file for my taxes, I entitled it Texas. I guess I'm so used to spelling that word...

And Jazzy... that stinks that you forgot to enclose the w2.
