My husband left for Iraq on Sunday. Since he left, Seamus has been very upset. He peed on my bedspread, just attacked my leg, sinking his teeth in, he vocalizes more then ever and will wait by the door. It's really very sad. What's the best way to calm him? I'm trying to play with him more and spend more time with him but I think I'm a poor subsitute for his Daddy. Seamus likes me, but Chris was his favorite. It's going to be hard enough over the next few months without repeated puncture wounds on my legs.

Thanks,
Erin

Erin, have you done laundry yet? If not take some of the clothes Chris wore recently and spread them out on the floor. Or if you haven't changed pillowcases, use the old pillowcase and put that on the floor as well.

I would look into the feliway comfort zone room diffusers. When Seamus bit you how did you react to him? You need to not punish him in any fashion for he has bonded with someone who is now not in his life, and he does not understand that. If you left to take Chris to the airport and then returned without him, Seamus will consider you the predator that hurt his friend.

I would also look into the rescue remedies to help curb the depression- The Bach Flower remedies. They can be ordered online at many a find website- www.catfaeries.com has the best selection

Yes in fact I did do laundry. I had just washed the sheets and made the bed up again when he peed on it. I was thinking that maybe Seamus was mad that I washed out Chris's smell. The day before, Seamus looked like he was trying to dig through the comfortor. I don't know.
When he bit me, I was startled and yelped pretty loudly. I think I said no and then started cleaning the blood. It was quite the bite. Most of the time, he's sweet and cuddly.
I'll look into those diffusers. Thanks.
Erin
