I had rescued about 7 cats fromthe age 0f 15-17 from rat poison and decided to be a vet, when I saw all the biology coursed I had to take I changed to a psych major and finally a sociology major. Sadly enough I never completed college and do have 77 credits. I have been a sahm(stay at home mom for 15 yrs and would like to become a vets asst. but can't go back to school to get my degree
. My suggestion to anyone who wants this never give up and don't take out too many student loans.!!

Actually, I originally wanted to be a doctor.
After watching the way humanity is going, I decided animals are better worth saving.

Yes, you have asked before.
But it's ok, I have a horrible memory so I can't be mad.

CJ is for Casey Jones -- a Grateful Dead song. They are my favorite band.

I actually applied to be a vet tech, went through the interview and had several call backs. Turns out, I lost the job to another girl because she actually had a degree in medicine, which I did not.

I always wanted to be a vet, until I worked for an animal clinic! Its not even seeing hurt animals, sickness, death, ect. Its seeing the human's in pain, I could never deal with that~

I just got accepted to go to college to become a veterinary assistant. I will be starting on April 4th. I understand that it is a very emotional job, but you have to be strong for the people who are in pain. I took a stray to get spayed yesterday and my brother adopted a kitty. The vet let me assist him when he was giving the cat his shots and trimming his nails. I can't wait until I'm finished college!

I actually was thinking about it for a while, but you know how things are at my age. I changed my mind. I couldn't handle seeing an animal die more then having to see my own at old age.
I'm thinking about studing Animal Bonds at a University, or working at a rehap. "zoo". I'm still thinking about it.

Type whatever you want where it says custom user title then click reset.
Don't you have to have a certain amount of posts?

Yes Jenny, as Stephanie stated you need 1200 posts to have a custom user title.

I would love to be a vet, but homeopathics is more for me. Both you need to be really great at Science which I'm not, but I'm working on it!

You don't have to wait until you are finished college... a lot of hospitals will train you as you go. That's what happened with my job. I had had no previous experience and they have been teaching me along the way. So you could be learning hands on at work and learning at school. Congrats on getting accepted and good luck. I don't know what it's like where you live but I know the test here for certification is tough. I only work with cats and dogs but it covers everything -- including large animals. I have so much to learn before I can pass it..

Good luck!!

Actually, I will get to work hands on throughout my entire course. There is a veterinarian on site the whole time. We will get to work with animals and attend a practicum as well. Here is what I will learn...

Clerical Skills
Veterinary Office Management
Sales Skills
Medical Terminology
Anatomy and Physiology
Small/Large Animal Practice
Preventative Medicine
Common Medical Condition
Surgical Procedures/Equipment
Pre and Post Surgical Patient Care
Active Lab Training
Parasitic Diseases
Animal Restraint
Prescription Diets
Client Education/Euthanasia
General Pet Care
Resume Preparation
Practicum

I will also learn the technician part of the job. Out here a vet tech and assistant are the same thing.

Oh yeah....... I was going to be a Vet, and then I thought, "Oh, Mom said she wanted me to be a nun... Well... maybe I could be a nun in the morning and a Vet in the afternoon. Then, I decided "Nah... I don't think I want to be a nun, but I DO want to be an artist! So.....Maybe I could be an artist in the morning and a Vet in the afternoon. OR maybe I could just draw animal pictures!! hahahahaha

--I'm 53 years old now, and I am a nurse, and I draw pictures of lots of things, as my hobby! --Never DID become a nun!!!
And I never did become a Vet, but, that has not stopped me from loving all animals and I work with a cat adoption/rescue program to help stray and feral kitties! ...Oh I DO love kitties!!!!!

i used to nurse sick animals i found in the garden; orphaned baby birds, broken worms, snails with crushed shells etc.

the trouble is they would all end up coming home with me! my boyfriends the same, when we move in together our house is going to wind up resembling animal hospital!

i wouldnt be a very good vet as i would get too angry with the owners if imo it could have been prevented.

That's so cool. You're going to have a lot of fun and learn **so** much stuff. Here a "technician" is certified while an "assistant" is not. There is a state test you have to pass in order to be certified. There is a course here at one of the emergency clinics to prepare you for the test which I am thinking of taking. But it's about $400!

Good luck in your course!! I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks! I am so excited! I have waited my whole life for this, I love working with animals. I have less than 2 months before I start, I am studying cat/dog anatomy to prep myself.
