Hi all,

I just got my first foster. YAY!!!!!

However, all is not well. I initially got him so he could be out of a shelter enviornment and get some homelife. Both of my cats, Mao and Meiko are getting used to him. TOday is the second day and Meiko is already playing with the foster and Mao who is a grumpy lady is looking at him without hissing. I know I should have Henry (foster) in a room, isolate and introduce slowly, but the sneaky boy ran past me as I tried to bringin a new litter box in his room. The problem is that even though Henry doesnt bite or hiss or act aggressive to human contact, he is still very very scared of me. I try not to make eye contact but any time I am closer then 5 feet he will run away...He is a lovely beautiful boy, very playful and seems to love his kitty friends. I wanted to know some general and quick tips on how to get him more used to a human touch. I tried sitting with him in a room and reading softly but outloud, he doesnt like that , he tries to run away and keeps pacing..

Please tell me how to help him trust and luv to get scritches..meiko is a very good demo kitty for the scritching and luving but Henry doesnt seem to be interested at all...lol...i know its going to take some time but I just want to start off on the right foot...

THanx alll in advance

Hello, Ayesha! I am so glad that you have opened your heart & home to the little kitty. You're doing great, reading in the room with him. He will get used to you, it takes more time depending on his former experiences with humans. Have you tried talking to him in cat language? You could try talking to him like a mama kitty, either the "prrrrmeow!" or the "meow-meow", and check out his reaction. Even if you feel foolish at first, give it a go and see if he responds. ( I always bring the food in and call "meow-meow!", and that seems to help a cat associate me with food) With Meiko's good modeling (I'm sure Henry notices more than he is willing to admit), and your obvious caring, you will eventually make the connection. Please keep us posted!!! and don't give up!Take Care, Susan
