Was he a victim of some bully who dropped him in the middle of the desert?
This summation is in need of a small, but critical correction. Continue reading my post that answers questions for more detail:
An earlier question was "did he fall/jump/get pushed from a plane. The answer was no. But it does not therefore follow that he was not dropped from the sky.

Did he die from eating too much desSert? Well, Monty Python definitively showed that you can indeed die from just one last cookie, but NO!

Was he holding something plastic/metal/hard/soft? No/No/would you call it hard or soft? See question below.

Was he holding a straw/stick/empty water bottle? Yes/no/no.

Was he riding in a hot air ballon? Yes.

Did he fall to his death? Yes.

Did he drive to the desert? No.

Fall from somewhere in the sky to get there? Yes.

Did he ride a camel to the desert? No.

Did someone take him there? Yes.

Did his death contribute to the good of something (saving others)? Yes.

Did he die of natural causes (heart attack, dehydration)? Addressed above.

He was kind of murdered, you said? Did someone actively contribute to this (raise a gun, knock him over the head) or was it an accidental murder? Yes, actively contribute.

Did he have a heart attack and he was holding his pills with no water to take them? No.

Was he hangliding and the bar fell off and he fell?? No, but not so far off after all!

Did he die because his heart stopped beating?? Well, ultimately, yes (you goober!)

Was he a blind man? And the object he was carrying was his cane? No and no.

Was he a victim of some bully who dropped him in the middle of the desert? No.

Was someone trying to see if you fell from a hot air balloon in the desert, that you might live because the sand cushioned you? So they pushed him?And they found that it would not, since he died???

So, someone pushed him out of a hot air ballon, and he was holding a straw.... hmmmmmm.... and the straw is a clue to how he died..... hmmmmm....

Is the fall what killed him?

Was it a small straw, as in a drinking straw?

Was the murderer someone he knew and trusted?

Did he try to grab the side of the basket when he fell? (is that how the straw ended up in his hand)

It was a marriage experiment. He jumped out of a hot air balloon to see if he could survive while talking because his wife said he was full of hot air--even more hot air than the balloon!
The straw was well, the last straw, to see if the marriage could work. It didn't. Most last straws don't... BUT she was proved wrong, he didn't have more hot air than a balloon. (She knew this all along. She wanted his insurance money.)

How has this saved lives? People go to marriage counselors instead of hot air balloons when their marriage needs saved. And the counselors have tons of money to feed their families and save them from starvation.

MrsD's answer was too funny. I keep laughing when I read it!!! So did he fall from a hot air balloon and had straw in his hand. So... he was helped into this so someone pushed him... was there a hole in the bottom of the basket?

I also like this answer to the riddle!

Was the man with another person in a hot air balloon?
The balloon was going down and they needed to lighten the weight. So, did his partner push him off the balloon?
In the process, the man grabbed the basket and tried to hold on, but couldn't, so was it a "straw" of the basket that was in his hand?

Close Yayi.

They were riding in a hot air balloon, when they needed to get rid of things to lighten the weight. After they threw everything off, they decided to draw straws. The dead guy lost.

Cheers to Ari, who (after much head-banging and wailing, I'm told) managed to wrangle out the solution to the puzzle! So, now I'll be posting a second version of the icicle riddle, also provided by Ari. It will probably be a bit easy, but I've eliminated a starter clue from the question, just to make it harder on you!
Otherwise you'd have it in two seconds! It would be a race to see who could post the answer first!

Again, congrats to the intrepid puzzle-solver (and remind me never to take a hot air balloon over the desert . . . .).
