I think Dad needs to join AA. This is clearly an instance where drinking has gone so far it's hurting the people you love.

That's an excellent point, Colleen.

they are low matinence. if i was a busy mother (and its the mums who imo end up looking after the pets!) a stick insect would be perfect. eats leaves and does microscopic poos!

As "sorry" as he claims to be he still doesn't take full responsibility...he blames the alcohol, not himself. First class passive-agressive jerk!

Anybody care to comment on the type of TV show that inspired the wacko behavior? I really worry that some of these "gross-everybody-out" broadcasts give ideas to immature personalities and/or substance abusers.

And that is, of course, exactly what happened. And while it doesn't in any way absolve Dad, the stimulus shouldn't have been there in the first place, IMO. Of course, one has to wonder what other idiocy Dad would have gotten up to in its absence .

Perhaps the boy will forgive Dad eventually, when he is able to see it as a symptom of something that Dad needs help with, but it won't do Dad any harm to experience his disgust for a while. And, as Colleen pointed out, it likely is time for AA

i have no idea what these animals are but i dont really wnt to keep them as pets.
I havent watched those yukky shows. I think they should stop sending people to australia to eat kangaroo testicles
I mean for FKS! why make everyone sick? They all do it for the money but seriously ewww.
ANd do you know how many psychos watch tv and get ideas?
I dont think he has only AA to go to, He has to go and get councelling and go to a hospital for a while.
AA doesnt do much unless youre fully commited!

I will comment on these gross-out shows: there is a growing unease in this country about I'm a Celebrity... and the fate of the live creatures that are used on this show to humiliate the contestants. I think the show stinks, mainly because I feel sorry for the insects etc. but also because I think it is exceptionally boring watching a load of 'who-the-heck-is-that-anyway' so-called celebrities acting like children.

In fact, I really don't like any of these reality TV shows.

The subject of this thread though, the man who ate his son's pets, that is really disgusting. I certainly wouldn't forgive him that, not only for the pets' suffering (hopefully short) but what has this done to this son for goodness sake? How can he ever look up to his dad now? So much for family life. As for it being the effects of alcohol, I don't buy that. I've heard that alcohol merely exaggerates existing personality traits, so if you are a happy person, you will be an ecstatic drunk. Therefore the father must be a cruel person, as he is a sadistic drunk. I hate this kind of thing - cruelty to animals or people makes my blood boil.

can you even begin to imagine how chewing a stick insect must feel?

the tv show is called 'im a celebrity get me out of here!' where they stick a bunch of celebs in a jungle in australia and they have to do horrible things in order to get a meal, hence eating bugs, lying in bugs, getting put down holes with rats etc.

There's a German version, too: "Ich bin ein Star, hol mich hier 'raus!". The idiocy is international. Can we blame it on cable/satellite/digital TV? Too many channels, and not enough creativity? I'm to the point that I hardly watch TV any more.
