Hi, as a follow up to this thread I'd like to solicit opinions on a high fiber, easily digestible food. Oscar, the maine coone with the diarrhea problem, is now better having switched back to Science Diet z/d along with psyllium/slippery elm added to his wet food. However, I know this a temporary fix and I'd like to figure out what brand of food to which to switch. Perhaps a brand of food given to IBS sufferers is appropriate?

He did not take well to Wellness, Natural Balance, and even Nutro Natural Choice but as my previous thread indicated, that might been due to the switching of food to rapidly. He was eating Science Diet Light previous to all this but I'd like to try a healthier alternative. Your help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

When I was searching for the same thing, I found it VERY difficult to find a food you could buy at any petstore with a comperable amount of fiber. I ended up sticking with the Hills W/D and it works great.

That's too bad. You would think there would be something non-prescription on the market. Perhaps one of those hairball management dry formulas as they seem to be easy on the tummy as well as high fiber. Only problem is finding a "premium" brand that has such a formula. One of the diet/light formulas might work as well.

I do not know if there is a non-prescription food for cats with IBS, and I have to admit I'd be hestitant to take your kitty off something that is working so well for it currently (the Z/D).

I took a quick gander and found the following - I know you said you tried Natural Balance, but they have a new formula dry, called Venison and Green Pea for cats with food allergy issues, the fiber per cent on the guaranteed analysis is 4.5% which is higher than your average dry cat food. Here is the link to read the ingredients and product description: Natural Balance Venison and Green Pea Dry Food

and then there is Innova Lite, with a fiber content of 6.2%, but many more protein sources in the food etc. Here is the link to read ingredients list etc :

I would make no change of course, without first running it by your vet, and if either of these is given a go, do a gradual change.
