This message was sent to Save Samoa, and Heidi forwarded it to me since I live in the Cleveland area. I've encouraged Laurie to join the site and post, but in the meantime I've promised to post her question. You can PM any replies and I'll pass them on. Thanks!

Hi Christy,

Thanks for responding. Let me tell you about my problem and I'll try not to make it too long.
I used to own a house in Cleveland and I noticed stray cats across the street. They lived under the porch of a house where an elderly couple lived. There were two adults and four kittens. They were all pretty feral. They wouldn't let me near them and they would hiss and spit when they saw me. I fed them for a while and then started trapping them and getting them fixed and vaccinated.

After about nine months the kittens all seemed to tame up at the same time. I took them to the shelter where I was volunteering and they were all adopted. That left the two adults who hadn't really tamed up very much. I have continued to care for them even though I moved into an apartment in Lakewood.

Well my problem is that the couple has died and the house has been vacant for almost two years. I found out last week that it sold at an auction. I doubt the new owners will want these cats to stay. I'm already having problems with the next door neighbors. And now that someone else owns the house I feel like I'm trespassing every time I go to feed them.

My husband and I are currently trying to buy a house and I would be willing to relocate them to my property but it could take months for us to find something. I guess I was hoping that you would have some advice for me or maybe you could point me in the direction of someone who may be able to help. I really don't want anything bad to happen to them. They're just at the point now where they will come near me when I put their food out but they are in no way tame cats so finding a place for them will be hard.

Thank you for your time,
Laurie

I tried to relocate 2 feral cats to my property when the city where they lived were trapping and killing every cat that came their way (they killed over 100 cats during that time). I followed all the tips to the letter and they only stuck around for a few months after release. The advise about relocation as a last resort is absolutely right on. Always try to leave them where they are if at all possible.
