Which kitty brush do you use and why?

---

What is the best type of brush to use for long haired cats?

What is the best type of brush to use for short haired cats?

Are plastic bristle brushes bad for the cats skin?

These are excellent questions and I'm looking forward to hearing some answers.

I've found a great brush for my DSH cat called "Zoom Groom" -- it really gets a lot of the loose fur up.

As for the Medium-haired cat, I'm using a plastic-bristled brush and a white-toothed flea comb. I sometimes use a slicker brush (with fine metal teeth) but I was afraid that was scratching her skin so I don't use it as often. I really don't feel like I've found the right grooming equipment for her so I'd love to hear what other people use.

I use a Zoom Groom on my 3 shorthaired cats, because it removes shedding hair really well, and they love being brushed with it. They come running when I get it out, and push each other out of the way to get brushed with it.
Sometimes I'll follow up with a soft-bristled brush or chamois cloth, to polish their coats - chamois works great on Sylvestra's super-short fur. If you get a chamois, be sure it's real leather chamois & not a towel, and with no added chemicals or soaps (better to get it from the pet store or cat show than the auto supply store).

For DH's Oreo, who for some reason doesn't like any grooming tools, I use a grooming glove (a glove that has little nubs all over the palm to brush out loose hairs).

Not sure...I've read that some people think that they cause hair breakage, though.

*edit*
For the longhair question, TCS has a great longhaired cat grooming adviser who has Persians, perhaps you could drop her a pm?

I'd also recommend the ZoomGroom for shorthaired cats. I'm still amazed at how much hair it removes, and Jamie seems to love the feel of it.

I just bought a new brush at petsmart that has really fine wires. One of my long hairs-Grizzly didn't seem to mind it however Ox had it on his body for about 2 seconds and he slinked off. I have a real problem with grooming him as his hair is extremely long, he sheds terribly (esp this time of yr) he never has liked being brushed, old stomach injury yrs ago he just doesn't like being touched. But he is pretty old now and I know much thinner-the hair masks it so much of body size-if I could brush him for a minute that would be grand. I need a really effective gentle brush.
