Welcome to TCS. From what I have read...it's best to keep the male seperate from the female until after the litter is born.

Thanks for sending that article on kitten killing. It was very interesting and a little scary, but I feel more informed on the subject. I haven't felt the kittens move yet. I'm sure it won't be long, if I've got my date right. I could be off 7 to 10 days.

In all my years, I have never seen a neutered male harm a kitten ... I've seen them act like Momma, I've seen them play and frolic with the babies, I've even seen them try to nurse them - but I have never, ever seen one intentionally hurt. However, I do agree that it is best to err on the side of caution and keep the male away from the kittens at least until they are older.

Usually, a neutered male, especially a young one, will just play, chase and romp with the babies. Yes, the play needs to be closely monitored due to the sheer size and strenth differences, but normally, they play together well. It actually helps the kittens to learn social behavior.

Intact male cats are referred to as Toms. Neutered male cats are referred to as Neutered Males or just Neuter. I think the focus of the article you cited was more so on Toms than neuters. So, while this article may provide a great deal of assistance to someone housing a Tom (an intact male cat) who isn't related to the expected kittens, for someone with a young neuter (a neutered male cat), I think it is way overblown and quite threatening.

If accepted introduction procedures are followed when the kittens are of an appropriate age, there normally isn't a problem with a neuter interacting with kittens.
