I would give them the ability to speak for one most important reason.....
It wouldmake medical emergencies a lot less stressful....Not knowing if you cat is in pain or sick has got to be one of the worst feelings on earth............ Them being able to tell me how there feeling would make things a lot better.....

On the other end I dont know If I could deal with 4am serenades of "Mom get out of bed and feed us"

I'm going back and forth about whether to give them human-like speech -- I just don't know -- with the exception of when they are unwell, and it really would help for them to be able to say in so many words what's wrong and how they feel. One thing I've often thought, though -- I'd love to spend 24 hours "in their head" so to speak -- experiencing things from their point of view and discovering their real response to the world and humans and...or would I be sorry I asked??

They can't complain, they can't boss you around, (except for Princess) and they can't yell at you, or ask you what's wrong.
Wow, mine do all of this. I think I am spending too much time with the beasts, I know when they are mad at me, when they are bored, when the are worried because I haven't been home much, or am not feeling well. And they do yell at me and boss me around, especially when I am fiddling around with dinner time.

I would love to know what they did before they came to live with me. Both were adults when I adopted them, and I don't even really know how old they are.

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Sierra and I talk every single day, in fact, most days, my greatest conversations are with my sweet girl!
There are so many times, though, like when she isn't feeling well or when she is afraid and hiding, that I just wish wish she could speak in English and tell me exactly what she is feeling and what is going through her sweet little mind!

You guys are so tight! I had that kind of bond with Katie (who I probably mention too frequently). It's very special, isn't it?

Some of the best conversations of my life have been with my cats. They are awesome listeners! They also don't judge you for anything you say; listen while looking you right in the eye (as opposed to humans who do not know how to make eye contact); and, in most cases, will give you a kneadful massage while listening.

I have cats that talk already in their own language, and believe me, we understand them. All that personality they each have comes through in their meows and mews and chirps and growls.

I don't think I'd want to give them the ability to speak human language simply because, when they play-fight, it'd be like separating kids who are fighting! Impossible and crazy!!! Just last night I had to form the Mommy Barrier between Hammie and Snickers because they were batting the heck out of each other and YELLING back and forth! And this morning? Dusty was growling like an old lady at Snickers because she wanted to be up on the sink with me but he was instead. I can only imagine what words she would have said to him.

Absolutely. Sasha is an introverted kitty but we communicate really well together and I always seem to know what he is thinking....although that credit should go to him for his telepathic skills.

I love that Conner and I communicate like we do,, his meows and bird-like cooing. We will talk for 20 mins like that. And without trying to sound creepy cuz its not meant that way, I sometimes think that Conner is my furry little kindred spirit and soul mate. He is so very intune with my emotions, I like to think that I am that way with him too, but everynow and then he will yell at me, and I do not know what he wants,,he has food and treats, clean litter and water, and i will love on him and pet him, but he wants none of it, I think he is telling me that he wants his friend Ezra to come play (this is his play-date pal, they love each other and they get to play for 3-4 hours like every other day!..Ezra is my best friends kitten.) Ohh, and about cats not judging you,, Im not so sure about that, when I am complaining to Conner about something useless or am doing something yucky like picking my nose(hehe), he will just look at me like I have lost my mind!! Its funny and a little disconcerting cuz I really feel like he knows what I am saying!

Actually, I find that cats are very adept at communicating their wants, needs, fears, hopes, etc., to humans, using their vocalizations and body language. They're very stubborn, too, and will keep repeating themselves until we dense humans get the message.

Actually, I wish all animals could speak to us. Maybe then, we wouldn't have so many cases of animal cruelty.
I think that's the only reason I would want cats to speak.

I think it must be something in the name Princess. My Princess is VERY demanding and bossy. She has no trouble telling me what she wants and of course I jump right up to get her whatever she might want. She has me trained well.
