Has anyone had cats who have had problems with their anal glands?

My cat Hammie is going to the Vet for this problem. He usually had kind of a dirty bum, even though he cleans himself. The other day he was bloody! It freaked me out. I checked the boxes and found nothing unusual (just regular poo and no bloody poo).

Then he jumped up onto the sinktop for his usual morning lovin, and I noticed this HORRIBLE deathly gross smell! I mean it STUNK!!! I checked his bum and found 2 yellow pus-looking dots coming out (the 3 and 9 position, which I heard is the anal glands???).

I gently wiped his bum and he jumped down. Then later on I saw the blood again and looked in the boxes; I found some very runny poo with blood. Not a whole lot, just some on his bum and some in the poo.

I guess I'm just fearful it's more than the anal glands since there is blood coming from the inside. He doesn't get table scraps and I don't think he's ingested anything weird. He DOES love to chew on weird things -- like plastic, masking tape, etc. I am currently in the thick of a major bathroom remodel and I hope he didn't get in there and lick anything weird.

Hammie is only 3 yrs old but has always been sort of smelly back there. He had worms as a kitten which we got rid of long ago. I never see him do the butt-n-scoot boogie in the floor and he surely doesn't act like he's in any pain!

Take your kitty to the vet now for an appointment. He has an infection in his anal glands and they need to be drained, and the infection addressed.
