found a new way to torture myself. i cant seem to stop myself going on cat rescue websites and looking at the pretty pictures, that and browsing the free kitten ads in the classifieds. http://www.haws-animals.org.uk/

it just makes me so sad that these cats dont have homes and i could give them so much love and attention. unfortunatly my parents dont agreee and until i finish uni and move out it's just maverick for now!

my boyfriend has promised that when we win the lottery we can build a cat shelter. not too sure if i'll allow people to adopt them though. might just let them look then make them leave empty handed. lol

i dont know how you breeders do it. if i ever bred cats i'd end up keeping all the babies because i dont think i could bare to part with them!

LOL, that's one of the reasons we quit breeding, 'cause it was getting harder and harder for me to let the babies go! As a matter of fact, the only ones of mine who we didn't raise from kittens born at out home are Rusty and Babycakes, my two original breeders!

Not just the kitties either. One time my sis had to drag me away from the bunnies they were adopting out!!

I never realized how many homeless and unwanted kities there are.... I found a stray a few days ago, and she just had 4 kitties, with the expectance of more...I would love to keep them all, but how could I do it? I mean I have 2 dogs, and 2 cats, (including the stray now named Rhiannon) And my bf has 1 dog and 1 cat, and he is moving in with me in May, I don't know if I can part with them, and I know Ree is not going anywhere, she is my furbaby, the end. We are keeping the kittens until they are old enough to be fixed, and then we will find homes for them. So wish me luck.

*sigh* Sadly, this is the hardest part with us rescuers. We just want to save them all, when deep down, we know we can't.

Truthfully...I don't want them all...I just want to find them all homes, get them all fixed, stop having them dumped.

LastajiaNguyen..It's great you are going to take care of these kittens until they can be fixed...but please treat mom to a day at the vet's office too. Cats can get pregnant very soon after they give birth...so my recommedation is to take her in after her next litter.

The hardest thing about loving animals is when you see how many people DON'T.
I would love to volunteer at the Humane Society, but don't think my heart could take it. My respect goes out to those strong hearts that can.. How do you deal with it?
We got hit by 2 hurricanes this past season, & the H.S was overwhelmed by animals that people just left there, & never returned for, most of them had to be euthanized. Not only that, but they had alot of damage to deal with, too. The comic, "CarrotTop" donated like 18,000.00 to them, I think he is an area native. If I won the lottery, I would ignore all of the other pleas for money & donate a big chunk. Just because.
I can't watch those "Animal Cops" shows anymore, they were just upsetting me TOO much. My heart would fill with rage & sadness, I couldn't handle it.

First of all...there are many ways to help out that do not necessarily require that you go into a shelter. Offering to transport, creating a website, answering "free to a good home" ads (helping people to get their cats spayed/neutered) etc. etc.

I volunteer with a rescue group...we make a pledge to all the cats in our care that we will find them all homes. So in that sense, I don't have to worry about any of them being put down. Additionally, I get to interview people and make sure they understand what it takes to own a cat. I actually love seeing the cats go into good homes and every week we pull from a kill shelter so we are helping to keep their numbers down while placing more and more cats into committed homes. How is it that I don't want to take them all home?? I guess it's because I do believe there are plenty of well qualified people out there and to take all of the cats myself would 1. royally piss off my 2 cats and 2. deny someone else the joy of cat ownership. The way I see it...we are a match making service...offering our cats a wide selection of possible matches...I do believe that the cats in the end really do choose their owners and it brings a smile to my face everytime someone tells me how grateful they are to have found "insert really cute cat name".
