the other day and just this am I let our cats our on the porch. No none of them ran off I found the door opened before this happened, but when they went out on the porch, they started smelling around and acting strange. I didn't notice it at first but when I went out to get them inside because they were acting weird, I noticed a nasty odor of cat spray. Apparently my wonderful husband
upon leaving the door opened, invited a tomcat into our porch and he sprayed EVERYTHING! Our futon, the couch, the boxes, the cat perches, everything!
I'm sure I have to get rid of the futon and the couch because the spray has been on there for about a week now and there isn't a way to get it off, but can someone tell me how I can get rid of the cat spray smell on wood and glass? If I can save my futon and my couch that'd be fantastic too but I don't see that happening. Also can they get any diseases from smelling cat urine?

barb,

I would go to this link here and get what you need, because they carry everything, down to the black light you will need to spot all the urine this male cat left as a present-

If you don't want the cat to come around, sprinkle some human hair around. If it is a true stray and or feral and never owned by someone, it will steer clear of the human scent. Just go to your beauty shop and ask for the days cuttings. Tell them you are into sacrifices! LOL Because they will look at you weird-

I had that happen once. What a mess and it was stanky. Good luck on the clean up and I hope you have lots of Natures Miracle.

I would try it and wait say 2-3 days and see how it smells. You may have to treat more than once. Usually cat spray doesn't "soak in" as it would if a cat peed on it. One of my cats "dribbled" urine on the back on one of my favroite chairs. I treated it with one of those enzyme products(this was about 2 weeks ago) and the smell did go away. Also is there a place you could put this outside to get some sunlight and fair air in addition to treating??? I've used either vinegar and water or bleach and water on doors/woodwork etc....... These have worked well. Have fun-be persistant with the enzyme treatment and you should get some good results.

Gail, Thank you for the suggestion I'll try it Sunday!
The futon and the couch are on the porch and it has very good sunlight and airflow so hopefully I can save them both, and the cats can go back on the porch and not freak out like they were earlier today. I have a blacklight so I think Sunday will be find the cat spray and treat it day. Darn, not what I wanted to do with my day, but it HAS to be done!

darn men!!!!!!! I should make HIM clean it up!!!!! but I want it done as soon as possible since it's already been a week.
He's acting like it's no big deal! (of course not, he doesn't have to clean it up I do!!!!!
) Sorry it just makes me mad. He's just doesn't think sometimes and it makes me so angry!!!!!!! I know things like this happen but darn it, he didn't even offer to help clean it up, he just acted like I was making a big deal out of nothing!

I'm sure you needed more things to do this weekend, right? If it's any consolation, your husband is like thousands of others. My husband is the same, he's a great guy, but thinks I get my knickers in a knot over nothing! Well, yeah, it's nothing to him because he doesn't have to pick up or clean up after everyone.

Try to take some time out for yourself too this weekend.

When this happens to me, I just get everything out to clean whatever the mess is, and hand him half. If its a big job, we share. My SO is pretty good about helping. But he also knows that if I walk up to him with "that" look on my face, don't argue! Its usually a mess he created.

Well, He IS going to AT LEAST pick up the stuff to clean it up with, so I guess in his own MALE way, he's helping out. I'm still not to happy to say the least, but I guess I have no other choice, do it myself, or it never gets done and soon, I'll forget and our cats will go out there again and start to spray the things where the other cat sprayed, and that spraying behavior will eventually move into the house and will really tick me off. then hubby and I will go at it for something he did who knows how long ago, accidently, and so on and so on, etc. you know the story.
So Sunday and Monday I'm cleaning not only the whole inside of the house, (laundry, dishes you know the normal things) but the darn porch too!

MEN! you gotta love them!!!!!

I know what you mean. One of our cats Bobber started peeing in the house if we don't let her outside (long story) Anyhow last night he says oh Bobber peed on the carpeting-he then let her outside and walked away!! She is more "his" cat than ours but never wants to clean up her spots!! Like thats what I want to do.

Well I'm happy to report that hubby cleaned the porch (after some gentle prodding from me) Sunday night. I let the cats on the porch today and they found some places that we missed so I'll have to go out there and spot clean but fortunately he got the biggest messes up. So now thankfully we can spot clean and by summer the cats can go back to sunning themselves, on the porch and not having to worry about any horrid other cat smells!!!
