Hi people, just found this site and thought it looked cool.

Im Kendell I am 20 years old. I am a girl. I know the name sounds like a guys.

I help out at a local animal shelter cleaning cages, walking dogs and careing for what ever comes in the door, im sad to say this is not a no kill shelter, but I do my best to get those that are adoptible into homes.
I do care for a large group of ferral cats in which I been doing so for about 5 years now. I catch the cats and try to get those medical care and also have them fixed and released, some are found homes.
I have a small system I use that involve tatooing the ear of the cats I have fixed and have caught. The tatoo's help me identify those cats and also help me keep track of those that have been caught and sent to the shelter. I hope to learn more by being here.

Welcome to the site!

I think it very noble of you to volunteer at a non-no-kill shelter. Unfortunately until the disparity between responsible owners and the vast pet overpopulation is closed, there will be a need for shelter that do euthanize, as sad as it can be. It is hard for animal lovers to give their hearts to these animals that they know have that chance, but I think it is just as or more important for these animals to know love and compassion even if their time is cut short.

And thank you too for caring for the feral cats in your area. They definitely need their angels.

IM very thankful to be here.
I foster about 10 cats on average a month. I have to be the "judge" for behavior and try my best to have those cats soicalized before a set time my boss gives. If they can be helped they get to stay longer. If no hope, he allows me to release those that were in a secluded area. IM happy to say I have already caught about 13 cats/kittens last month out by a ranching area. Seven cats were adopted out yesterday the rest I am working with still.

Yes I play a big role in the euthanize part. I have each cat tested for any major illnesses, those that cant be treated im afraid are placed to rest. The one's who need long term med's, they get a wait period of time to try and find a person who will take them. If not I have to place them to sleep to. It hurts to much, because i spend so much time taming them and trying my hardest to find them a home. I do find homes for about 68% of the cats who come in, some I take in only if one of my old rescue cats passes. I have bout 6 who are soon to leave. The others have a few years. I wouldnt trade my job for anything. I do get paid everynow and then, Taths only for those cats who get homes. So I get a reward bonus for adopted cats I have cought, I also tell the owners who adopt the cats of the tatoo's on the ears and belly. I had started to tatoo multiple areas since I have found many cats with and ear torn where you can read only some of the tatoo.

Hi Kendell, welcome to TCS and kudos to you for doing animal welfare work!
Wow, I can't imagine that at 15 (you said you've been caring for your feral cats for 5 years) you've already started TNR work, I (personally) should've realized about this earlier! (I'm turning 24 this weekend- but it's never too late, anyway.) I hope you can continue your work! It's great to be passionate about one thing.
