Another lesson in listening to cats

I had oral surgery yesterday. It was bad enough that they had to put me completely under and I am not at my best today. I was lying here trying to sleep, when prowler started acting out in the kitchen. She was scratching at the cabinet under the sink.

I got up, and went in to her and checked in the cabinet to see if there was anything there. Nope, just the pipes and the fixtures. No wall surrounds this part of our house, it is an open area right now where the cats could get in under the dishwasher if they wanted to, which is why we blocked it off. I closed it back up, and went back to sleep..

..scratch...scratch...scratch.. prowler woke me again. I went in and she was digging furiously at the cabinet in the same spot. This time, I grabbed a screwdriver and went to work taking off the sheeting we put in front of the area to keep the cats out- and there was Gypsy! How in the world she even got back there, is anyone's guess. Mike supposes she crawled into a small tiny space under the dishwasher (that we hadn't blocked because we thought no cat could get into the space). But once mike crawled down there with a flashlight, he saw the tell-tale signs of calico fur on the springs underneath.

Gypsy showed up this morning for chow, and so she got trapped sometime afterwards, and though her ears were cold, and she was scared, she is fine. She is now on the top of the cat condo and I thanked prowler for being so "annoying" and saving her!

Good girl Prowler!

Isn't it amazing that Gypsy fit under there, but Prowler couldn't, or wouldn't?

Prowler, really lived up to her name...good work little girl! Come to think of it Gypsy really lived up to her name as well! LOL! If this holds true, Franz, as in Franz Lizst, should be playing the piano and composing any day now...oops I better run down to the store and get that piano!

The spaces they manage to get themselves into!! Thank God for Prowler's insistence. Good girl, little one!! Hope you're feeling better, too, MA.

Sorry you are down, MA, I thought it was the flu! 1/2 of Seattle must be sick!

Prowler shows unusual intelligence for a kitten. Even Mike has picked up on how smart she is. And with her multiple toes, she can open almost every cuboard in the house. She opens up the file drawer where I keep all the interactive toys. Right now, she is asleep in my ingoing box on my desk. To bad I can't get her to do all my work!

What I think is so sweet is this not only shows how smart Prowler is but how much she cares about her best friend, Gypsy. I just love that these two newcomers to MA's house have bonded so strongly.

Way to go, Prowler!I'm so thankful you're wise enough to listen to your babies when they have something to say, MA, this may have just saved Gypsy's life!

that is adorable!
My kitten can open any door in the house incluing the front door. So we have to keep an eye on him so he doesnt run downstairs to the other cats

Well done, Prowler!! In my old apartment we had the same problem. There was a tiny space and Max kept getting back behind the pipes!

It's a good thing Prowler was so insistent. Smart kitty! I learned to listen to cats a few years back when Jamie woke me up and kept insisting I come out on the balcony with him. The place behind us was being burglarized, and he "knew" it wasn't right.
I'm beginning to suspect that cats have an alien-like ability to make their heads flat when we're not looking - that's the only explanation for how they manage to fit into such narrow spaces.
I hope you're recovering from your dental surgery okay. Ouch!
