OK, I've heard so much hoo-ha and I want some other opinions. Is there any reason to use one cat litter over another? I mean, for health reasons. I got that Feline Pine litter for after Obi was neutered (vet said I needed to use something that didn't contain gravels that could get packed into the incisions) and really like it. When he urinates it activates the pine and house smells like wet pine!! Yay!! Plus, you can mulch or compost the used stuff. So, does anyone know of any health (mental or physical) reasons why I shouldn't continue to use this stuff?

I tried using Feline Pine, but the chips were to harsh on Miko's paws (he had an injury to his back left paw). He had a hard time getting situated in the litter and would often miss the box. I've also tried Fresh Scoop, A&H, basically every type except the crystal litter. None of which worked out too well, but I stuck with A&H because it worked well for the Littermaid I had for a few months. Also, Kionu would try to eat the clay or feline pine litter so I decided to switch to World's Best Cat Litter. It's made out of ground corn, so it's safe if your cat decides to taste it. It's also flushable and I've had no problems with tracking or odor control. Miko loves it to pieces, so I think we've found a winner. Hopefully he won't change his mind again.

I like Feline Pine too - we've been using it for more than a year now (actually, thinking back, it's been a few years). It works well on odor, has a nice natural smell, and is a great creative use of a waste product (sawdust). It's also good if you have wood floors, because if the cat tosses some out of the box or tracks some of the sawdust & you step on it, it won't scratch your floors.

The only drawback is that some cats justs won't use it - out of our 4 cats there is 1 who insists on clumping litter, so we keep 2 boxes full of Feline Pine and use Swheat Scoop in the other 2.

I don't think there is really much difference. I use an arm and hammer multi cat litter, my older cat was kind of stubborn about it at first and kept peeing on the housebreaking pads that I put under their litterboxes, but shes over it now. I like it because it takes care of the smell real quick! I think its just a personal preference. I use it in both litter boxes, and you cant tell I have cats until you see them!

I just started using Worlds Best this week, and I have to say that I am soo very impressed. We've used non clumping clay, and clumping clay as long as I can remember. I like it because it has almost no dust, if any so my allergies don't react to it. I also like the idea that it's biodigradible because we can all do a little to help the environment. My mom is looking at switching too, although I'm not sure how well that will work out with 3 senior cats, one with a kidney problem. They just reduced the amount of garbage we can have per week and mom would like to flush it. Overall, I recomend it for sure.
I've also been told that chicken feed is pretty much the same stuff for much cheaper. I'm hoping to pick up a large bag of the stuff to try this week. We'll see how that goes.

I use World's Best - it's made of corn so it's safe for the kitties. I read that you should not use clay clumping litter because inevitably they end up ingesting some of it and it's not good for their systems and can lead to health problems. The World's Best is more expensive, but it's worth it for the peace of mind!! Plus it helps with the odour too!

Is it possible to combine the Feline Pine and Swheat Scoop? I'm finding the Swheat scoop doesn't have great odor control so I'm thinking of trying to mix in the pine.

Good question...I really don't know, but you could always try it & see. Feline Pine doesn't clump, so it might negate the clumping properties of the Swheat Scoop. Perhaps you could try adding an enzyme powder litter-deodorizing product to the Swheat Scoop? I think I've seen those at Petsmart, but have never tried them.

Please let me know what the results are if you try it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look around at Petsmart to see what might work. Also, if Pine Litter's not clumping how do you know what to scoop out?

The litter is pellets made of compressed pine sawdust - when a cat pees in the box, the pellets absorb the litter & break back down into sawdust. To maintain the box, you scoop out the poop every day and shake the box so the sawdust goes to the bottom of the box, with the remaining unused pellets on top. When the majority of pellets have turned to sawdust, you dump the contents of the box & put in fresh litter.

Different, but it works pretty well - the only drawback is that some cats won't use it because the texture is so different from clumping litter (large pellets instead of small grains).

Hmmm... maybe i'll put out a box of pine in addition to the Swheat scoop and see if they'll use it. That sounds pretty good.
