We have two undeclawed kittys and they are ripping those litter pan liners to h*ll! anyone have any suggestions? I hate to have to change the pan that often..seems such a waste of so much litter! any ideas? We usually just put one liner in and it's torn apart within a matter of days and waste will start to get underneath the liner

Also, our new male kitty..he has a habit of not scratching the litter when he's done going..but rather, he'll scratch at the sides of the pan or the air..so needless to say, we ALL know when he's left a mess..whewee! he'll even attempt to cover his dry food by scratching in the air, at the wall or trashcan near by

I finally decided to skip the liners. It wsa just too much of a hassle. Whenever I do a complete litter pan change, I always wash out the pan, that way there is nothing 'stuck' to it.

Dinah used to paw at the air after eating. I havent seen her do it scince we moved into our new place, but when she did.. it always cracked me up.

isn't it funny?

I love the liners but having grown up with all declawed cats, having ones that aren't is new to me and I am thinking it's kinda pointless to have the liners, huh?

MODS and OWNERS..I apologize if I ONCE again posted in the wrong area...I'll get it one of these times! Move the thread if you need to..

I don't use the liners with Dori either. I learned a trick here on the site that if you spray the bottom of the litter pan with Pam cooking spray the litter will not stick to the bottom. I use a scoop and scoop her box out daily and then every other weekend I completely change out all of the litter. Her box stays very clean and it also never smells

I used the liners for about 6 months - the same results you have, torn and stripped liners with the waste collecting under the liner and urine getting under the liner as well. I tried a variety of different liners and tried to get them to fit the pans better by using packing tape and all sorts of things. About a month ago, I just gave up. It is easier to clean out the waste daily without the liners, the pans don't smell because the liners aren't there to collect waste and urine underneath (I tried to change the liners once a week), and the cats seem happier. It is actually easier to keep the boxes clean without the liners than with them. I still clean them thoroughly once a week with an enzymatic cleaner then replace the still good litter and top it off with fresh litter. So far so good:-).

try double lining it... That's what I've been doing. My kitten endlessly paws at the wall after he's done too... I have no clue how to stop that

I learned to not use litter liners with my first cat, Terazar(RB) many many years ago. It is my belief that she learned to pee on plastic because of them. Consequently, anytime there was plastic on the floor, she peed on it.

With our last cat (who was declawed), my mom alwaysused those huge black garbage bags. She would just unroll it and lay it inside the pan, and then use twine to secure it around the box. It was a lot cheaper than buying true liners, and it was a lot more durable because it was double layered.

I used a liner twice with my boys, and then I gave up. Of course, part of the problem is that they don't make liners (or garbage bags) large enough to line a storage box, which is what their litter boxes actually are. I just make sure to wash it good once a week.

We used litter tray liners a few times back in the days, if a cat clawed them whilst trying to cover their waste then it would just rip a whole and when you tried to take the liner out stuff would just leak through anyway! Nope, I completely change and the scrub out the litter trays every two or three days.

I am wondering if you are using the clumping litter as opposed to the non clumping litter. I started using liners but gave up because of them being ripped to shreds. Initially I was planning on putting a bit of litter in (lined litter box) and just change it every other day , completely (taking out the whole liner, tie the top and put in a new liner with fresh litter). That didnt work, and would have been extremely costly. The best thing for me now is scoopable litter, I mix in a little bit of crystals with the scoopable, so the moisture is absorbed better. Every other day I just lift out the clumps and throw em away , leaving a clean field for poop and peeps. I also tried the non clumping litter, but didnt like the way the peep blocks would break up into shreds and mix the dutty litter with the good litter. This caused a constant smell.

I hope that helped

Liners are a waste of money and they seem to annoy most cats because when a cat scoops their claws are extended. Use PAM cooking spray, it makes the clean up a breeze every time. Just clean your pans. air dry them then spray the interior with a generous coating of PAM. Let it sit a few minutes and dump fresh litter on top. For clean-up get a small covered bucket, but one wet swiffer sheet in the bottom of the bucket, line the bucket with a plastic bag, dump your waste in there, cover the bucket with the lid. When the bag is full, take it down to the dumpster, tie up the bag and toss it in. The damp swiffer pad catches all the odor.

I would never use a litter liner. My Oreo is a vigorous digger. He would shred a liner to bits with one visit. I clean the box once a day and if anything is stuck I just scrape it off. A little dry litter is good for getting tough spots clean.
