I'm in a bit of a position, which I need some advice on. These past two weeks my employers at the Airport have been asking me to take on extra hours. Since I make more there, than at School, I have been accepting. Last week I called my superviser at School and told her that I would be cutting my hours due to the hours I'm picking up at the airport. Friday the Airport informed me that I would be getting enough hours that I would more than cover what I am making at School. So, I decided to quit at School becuase I can work an additional 6 hours at the airport and make what I made in 11 hours at School. I planned on going in tomorrow and telling my boss at School. The airport just called me and asked me to cover for a call off tomorrow, starting at 7 am. I agreed. Here is the issue. I was supposed to work at the School from 10 till 12 tomorrow and then at the airport from 12:30 till 7:30. They asked could I work 7 am till 3:30 and then someone would cover my 3:30 to 7:30. The School opens at 8. Should I call now and leave a message, saying I won't be in and I quit. Or should I wait till I'm at work tomorrow and call around 8:30 when I know my boss will be there? And what precisely do I say? It's not a big deal, as it is merely Workstudy, but I don't want to be rude. Some kids just don't show up and never actually tell them they quit... I don't want to do that. So, how should I handle this?

I would call now and leave a message that you will not be in tomorrow, and that you need to speak with your supervisor. Then you can call at your earliest convenience and talk to her in person, but I wouldn't just leave them hanging about why you aren't there first thing in the morning.

You should always try and make a proper exit from a job, no matter why you want to leave. Common courtesy is to give them notice so they can plan to fill your position- you just don't want to burn bridges if you can help it

I agree. I would call tonight and leave a msg that you will not be there at 8am and then call again when your supervisor gets in and tell him/her directly. Good luck!

I agree, although I would put your contact number in the message for your School supervisor to reach you at the airport.

It's workstudy, so people are coming and going whenever classes allow. So, thats not a big deal. I'm going to call tonight and leave a message and then call again tomorrow from the AP.

Definitely leave that job on a positive note. You never know when you may need to use your supervisor as a reference or to get a letter of recommendation. Even though it is workstudy job, it could be a valuable resource to you one day.
