about three weeks ago I took Leeloo in to get spayed, when she came back I noticed a lot of little bumps underneath her chin, at first I thought she caught something from staying over night at the hospital I left her there, but after talking to some people here on the cat site I figured out she had feline acne... When I took her in last week to get her stitches out, the doctor said he didnt feel anything o_O but she still had bumps, although they were clearing up. I felt more in the middle of the week last week and so I called and they said to put neosporin on them, so I've been doing that but I still feel the bumps there, I can see one of the bigger ones and its red and I dont like the way it looks, there are a few other big ones but its difficult for me to see because the one I can see is on a white part of her fur/skin the other bumps are on black parts so its harder for me to see they are only under her chin.

I really dont have a lot of money, but I would never not take her to the vet because of financial reasons if she really needed to go... should I take her if the bumps dont go away in the next week? or do they normally take this long? I just want to make sure this isn't a problem that I can solve at home instead of having to pay over $50 for an appointment...

Feline acne is so stubborn!!! At our clinic we've seen many cats with infections so bad they need antibiotics. Even after a course of antibiotics some cases don't go away...they just simply aren't the big pussy ones anymore. So this is what we recommend: Margarite Acne Pills. They're a chinese herb supplement for humans. Ignore the dosing on the back. Give your kitty 1 pill daily until the bottle is gone or acne clears up. It can take about a month for this to work, but I swear by it! It's worked for all of my cats that have had stubborn feline acne at one point or another. My cat Bella had acne so bad...nothing worked! I mean nothing, no topical or oral meds. Finally the Dr. recommended this for her and about a month later, she was completely acne free! She still acne free and it's been about a year. You can find it at a health food store...I get mine at Whole Foods. Good Luck

Another solution that has worked and is safe is also available at the health food store. Purchase some pau d'arco root herb - they should have it loose with the different herbs and teas. Take a tsp of the root and put it in a cup with boiling water. Let it sit until cool, then strain. Soak a soft clean cloth in the cooled tea and use that to wash your cat's chin. Dry it afterwards with another soft cloth. Repeat 2 to 3 times a day. If the cat is interested, she can also drink this tea without harm. It is a natural antiseptic, antifungal, antibiotic when used topically like this and is showing great promise in medical research to treat sores, wounds and skin infections. I have used this with great success.

You know, I just have to say that I had an experience like yours - I had noticed Baylee's chin was a bit "dirty" and so when I took her in for a different reason, I mentioned it, saying I thought it might be feline acne. Like your vet, mine said she didn't feel anything... but then she sold me a huge bottle of $11 shampoo, to use a bit to watch her chin every few weeks. It hasn't helped... pointless vet.

I read about that the first time I posted about the bumps under her chin, I went to wholefoods and couldn't find it, then again I was kind of in a rush, I didn't look by the tea's though! *doh!*

I'm going to stop by there tonight and get some of both the Margarite Acne Pills and some pau d'arco.

If you don't see it out or can't find it, ask at the counter. I am sure one of the sales people will know where to find it for you:-).

Good luck

*Disclaimer: Please do not take any advice on these forums about homemade, homeopathic, holistic or any other sort of remedy offered without first checking with your vet. Doing so may harm your cat, because no one has hands on with your cat, but your vet. If your one vet is not giving you satisfaction, seek a second vet opinion. *
