OK my Aunt sent me an email about something you can take to help speed the healing processs of a cat bite, ill copy and past most of the email.

I have not been on the pc for a few days now so just saw this e-mail. ***** told me about the cat bite. I told her to tell you to get some enzymes to keep on hand for things like this. Take them away from food and it will help the bite heal faster. When I got bit by Shiloh I took a lot of them and I healed much faster and not as much swelling as there could of been.

I belive you can get this from a health store. You can probly do a google search to find more info. I dont know really since I never tried it, but it works for her and she's delt with a ton of cats in her time.

ANY cat bite should be seen by a doctor if it is red, swollen, hot or throbbing- and not treated with enzymes of a questionable nature.

If any of my cats bit me I'd be going straight to a doctor, I have terribly sensitive skin and swell up something terrible from a tiny cat scratch.

It helps the healing process, I doubt its for a serious cat bite Hissy. Probly for a bite already checked or thats not seriously infected.

Your Aunt doesn't say anything about what kind of enzymes, and there are a lot of different ones out there. It is sort of like saying "put juice on it".....what kind? I would also agree that any cat bite that is red and swollen should be seen by a doctor. It can, and often does, get seriously infected, and without a tetanus shot and/or antibiotics, can become something very serious.

Having been bitten several times in all the years dealing with ferals, your aunt's advice as nebulous as it sounds, is dangerous to put on this board. Cat bites are serious and should be treated as such, especially in light of the bacteria that cats carry in their mouths. Any breaking of the skin, whether it be a scratch or a bite, should be immediately flushed with betadine solution, then scrubbed with hot water and antibacterial soap, then betadine solution again and then an antibiotic ointment. It is not something to be messed with by taking enzymes, as one poster has pointed out there are so many "enzymes" out there.

If the wound becomes red, inflamed, swollen, throbbing or painful a doctor should be sought after immediately. My sister spent a long time in the hospital, almost lost her arm because of a cat bite, and she treated it immediately after it happened. You just don't mess around with these.
