Colleen just wanted to let you know that Angel is very concerned about Penelope and hoped she'd give him a second chance when she's up to it, if that's ok? Maybe for Valentine's Day, he said!

I left an update in that thread re: my sister. Thanks for asking. Thanks alot!

Cheryl,

Oh, Penelope is definitely willing to give the Black Stallion a chance. She's just been daunted by all the competition! She'd LOVE to be selected for a Valentine's Day date but she wanted to let him know that Molly will not be allowed to come along. She's a very jealous kitty and wants all the attention to herself.

I read the update on your sister. I hope you'll continue to post updates there because I know many of us on the board are thinking about her and praying for her.

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Penelope, you're such a brave little girl, Sierra and I are so proud of you!
Colleen, you definately made the right decision to have the procedure done now. You're such a fantastic Mommy, and are taking such wonderful care of your baby!
Please let us know what the cytology report shows, we'll be counting the days with you! You and Penelope remain in my thoughts and prayers!

Dear Colleen, glad to hear the procedure went smoothly and that Penelope bounced back so quickly. Hoping for a good prognosis, and closure to her lung problems once and for all. Hugs.

Thank you Carolcat and Sam!! I'm hoping it's something that can be easily treated as well. Anyway, you guys are so great to provide me with emotional support -- it really helps!

Thank you, Stephanie! It helps knowing that you and Sierra have had to brave some pretty awful vet visits, too, and got through it! Also, thank you so much for your continued prayers. Penelope and I are blessed to have you and Sierra as friends.

Colleen, I'm relieved to hear that Penelope got through the procedure with no ill effects, and will continue to keep my fingers crossed that the prognosis is good.

Colleen sorry if I missed it, if you already posted this, but when are you expecting the results to that report. And what exactly is this report supposed to show? I'm very relieved to know Penelope is home recovering in her own surroundings. That helps heal anyone faster. I'm praying for both of you.

It's Feline Asthma! The good news about this is that asthma is treatable and Penelope won't die. Phew!
The bad news is that Penelope will have to take medication every day for the rest of her life and it's pretty expensive (about $100 a month), but, honestly, it seems a small price to pay to keep my little girl happy and healthy: I'm just so relieved we have a diagnosis and that I can do something about her coughing/wheezing attacks.
(good tears)

I went to the vet today to pick up Penelope's new Feline Nebulizer (called Aerokat). Here's a picture of it: http://www.aerokat.com/overview.htm
Then I had to go to the human pharmacy to get the prescription for Flovent filled. The pharmacist was very surprised to be filling a prescription for a cat and wondered how I was going to administer it!

I tried to administer a dose of the Flovent when I got back and Penelope was not too cooperative but I think she got a few huffs of the medication. I think we both need practice using the Aerokat!

Anyway, thank you all SOOOOO MUCH for your support. It really helped me through a very difficult time. You all are the best!

I'm so glad that the problem is solved and Penelope will be fine! I'm sure you and her will figure out how to administer the meds in a while no problem.

Those are good questions, Cheryl. Penelope was diagnosed with pyothorax (http://www.catclinic.co.uk/health/pyothorax.htm) in October 2004 and recovered from that after 10 weeks of oral antibiotics. It's very unusual for a cat to recover from pyothorax on oral antibiotics alone so we were worried that Penelope's coughing attacks had something to do with the pyothorax. The vet wanted to do the bronchoalveolar lavage because if the problem was bacterial, steroids (treatment for feline asthma) would be exactly what we wouldn't want to give Penelope. Also, the lavage would rule out other possibilities such as lung cancer or lungworms.

So, even though we thought Penelope had asthma we had to do the lavage to be sure.

Thank you so much for your concern and support!
