Are crinkle balls O.K. as toys?

I don't know if this the proper place to post this. I have been paranoid (imagine that) of buying crinkle balls because I was afraid they would tear off pieces and swallow them. I see that everyone has them. Do you have any problems with them? I have cats that bite everything so I've been apprehensive to purchase them but they look like something they'd like.

Chris, if you are concerned about them eating parts, you can always make crinkle balls a "with parental supervision only" toy.
At least until you are assured that they won't eat them.

I'll move this to Care & Grooming.

Thanks for moving Heidi - I wasn't sure.

All my cats have these and love them. I have never had any tear them up. The worst thing about crinkle balls is they end up under the stove or refrigerator!

Crinkle balls are such a fun bat around toy!
Sierra has one, too, Chris, and she's never tried to tear the pieces off. As previously stated, though, if you have any doubt, you may want to simply put it away when you're not monitoring them.

Fwiw, I've never seen any of my cats chew on them, and I have one customer whose cat so wants it always with it, that it stores it in it's wet food...but does not consume the balls...they just get tossed cause they get dirty

my cats love crinkle balls and we have never had a problem with them being dangerous.

I would say with any new toy, watch them with it first to determine the safety of it.

L.S. tried to eat one out of dozens we've gone through. He was going through that kitten "I wonder what this tastes like" stage at the time. Other than that, my three boys haven't chewed on them. I make sure to check the crinkle balls once a day just to make sure no one has been chewing on them.

At the kitty's beck and call
Hi Chris

Mine love batting them around, but have never tried eating them and they don't seem to fall to pieces. But you know your kitties better than anyone else - supervised play as the others have said is probably best at first so you can judge.

Most toys end up either under the fridge or behind the biggest bookcase. Every so often I have a grand toy-retrieval session. I invite the cats to come & see, move the furniture and there are usually at least half a dozen ping-pong balls, furry mice etc. hiding away in the dust. The cats enjoy this as they get reacquainted with their favourite 'lost' toys!
