I am on another board, that is not cat related, and one of the members "cares for" a bunch of stray cats. She mentioned having litters of new kittens, and has described her little community as "that is the only cat left from [parent's] litter." I asked her at the outset why she was letting the cats breed, and her answer was a combination of, they are wild and I can't catch them, and, we can't afford to have all of them done.

Now, since Christmas, she has reported that three kittens have died. The first two, I consider to be neglect, as they were ill and she didn't take them to the vet. The third, she ran over it with the car.

I am beyond angry and disgusted, and although some of the people on the board agree with me, there is a pretty strong contingent that are giving her lots of sympathy for her "loss".

I don't know if there is anything I can do in this case. I don't know her IRL. I do know where she lives. Is there anything I can say to wake her up? Or to let the other people on the board know that this is not acceptable?

This person is not really doing them any favors by feeding them but not getting them fixed and/or vetting them. Hissy had some strong words about this on another post just recently, I'll try to find it (althought she'll probably show up before long). You can cite statistics and direct her (and the others) to the various TNR sites/info but if she's one of those that doesn't "believe" in getting animals neutered, it may be a hard slog to change her attitude.

She sounds more like a collector than a caregiver, and sadly when it comes to these types of people you can't do much except report them to animal control and let them handle the situation. The cats usually end up getting humanely euthanized which is preferable really to what their fate is in an uncontrolled environment like these cats appear to live in.

I explained to some of the other people on the board, that it is wrong to feed the cats if you aren't going to have them neutered. (which I learned from this board). One of the other members is wanting to report this person, and I will tell her that it seems like the best idea for the sake of the rest of the cats. Thanks for your opinions, I needed to hear what other people thought might work.

She really does think she is a cat care expert.
