Hi once again,

what i mean by my cat head bunting is this....well he will get on the bed, and keep shoving his head into your face, over and over, a friend of mine says that he is just wanting attention, wanting to be pet....well i agreed, but the problem is we were petting him, and he still continues to do this,,,,I love my Tyson very much, but holy cat stop shoving your head into my face!! LOL...Even if you are asleep, he will wake you up this way, no its not only a couple of times he does this he will actually do this for probably 10-15 minutes!!

hmmm, I would check for ear mites...

it makes their ears itch and smacking you in the face/head/hands helps to scratch it
My cat did this at the shelter and we just thought she was uber friendly--lol, so here ear mites helped to get her a loving home

Actually, this is a GOOD thing:-). He is seeking your affection by butting his head against you, then he is responding to your response by 'marking' you with his positive pheromones. Cats contain scent glands on their cheeks, around the tail and on the pads of their feet. These scent glands contain pheromones - something only cats can smell. These pheromones are a cats means of long distance communication. The ones on their cheeks are used to 'mark' the good things of their environment. They 'smell' that and recognize it as a 'good feeling' place. That is why you will see them rubbing up against furniture, and against your legs - and against each other - and against you or whatever part of you their head can reach:-). He is saying to you 'Oh, I am so comfortable and happy being here with you, you are my person and I don't want to forget how good it is being here with you, so I am putting my mark on you so that I know you are so good- and it also feels good so you just pet me and I will just rub up against you, and this is wonderful".

Cats will also do this to reassure themselves when they are feeling insecure in their space to 'remark' their 'good territory'. These same pheromones are the ones that are used in Feliway comfort zone and one of the effects of the Feliway on cats is that they will rub up and butt their heads more against the furniture and things in the area where Feliway is used.

If he gets really annoying see if you can put down a sweater or something that has your scent on it, cuddle him a few minutes, then put him on the sweater and see if he will curl up on that.

I have a cat that also does this frequently, also a shelter rescue (last week.) He has been holding his ears at a funny flattened angle ever since we brought him home. (my boyfriend calls him Yoda) I've been searching the web for ear mite info but your post convinced me to take him to the vet first thing Monday morning. Just wanted to say thank you, and "New Kitty" (no name yet) says thank you too!

Never hurts to check for ear mites but my cat does the same thing. I think head butting means he is marking you as his "own". With ear mites, I believe they scratch their ears a lot. But it doesn't hurt to check for ear problems with vet in any case.
LOL.

Sometimes Andy "slugs" me in the AM. The other day it felt like he was grabbing ahold of the bed, and head butting me as hard as he could. Purring and drooling the whole time.

Over & above being their Mommy, I am part of Dexter & Sadie's territory. I am marked by their sweet head butts several times a day.

Oh God! That's what I call a "face cat." Oh how I wish I had one of those!! I LOVE it when cats do that! Simmy will give me a simple bump head to head, but none of that face loving. He's just nuzzling you. Giving you love, love, love.

Want to borrow Tango? I love it too but once she gets really into it the drool starts and she smushes her face slobber and all on every part of visible skin she can find

yeah, you can borrow mine too.
I love him to death, but his soggy gums on my face after a can of wet food is sometimes too much for me. He is a wonderful cat though- my little cuddle-bug. . .

My Oliver does this. He'll ram his head into me and then his whole fat body plops slams into me sideways. I think it's hilarious. Sometimes he'll smash his face into my foot (when I'm standing) and almost do a somersault when he tries to follow it up with his bottom.
