Hi everyone....I am new to this site.. I am owned by two wonderful siamese cats!! But I do have a couple of silly questions concerning my wonderful cats.....
1. why do they lick us....not that I mind too much...but the texture of their tongues kinda grosses me out.
2. Why is it at bedtime, Sierra my oldest cat decides that she is going to lay between mommy and daddy!!.....and nope there is NO moving her....if you try to, there is an argument, she will moan growl, hiss, and leave for a short second, then returns to claim her spot once again!!!
3. and at last there is Tyson, my 1 year old siamese...well he is another story..at bedtime with him, you know how cats will head but you, well he is not normal there, he will repeatedly do this, and even if you pet him he still continues!!...geeeeeeeez what am I to do to get some sleep around here

Your post is confusing to me (sorry) but the last part of it I not quite understand.

Cat's lick us for many reasons, some of the products that you use on your skin have byproducts from other animals, and are therefore attractive to cat. They also may be wanting the salt off our skin, or they are just mutually grooming us, as a sign of affection. Cat's have little barbs on their tongues, that's why so many cats get hairballs, because these barbs pull up the loose hair when they groom. That is what you are feeling that feels so rough.

Sierra lays between you, because she is Alpha cat, and she rules your bedroom. If you don't want her there, you will have to lock her out of the bedroom at night. Otherwise, she will continue to come between you and your hubby.

I think when Tyson headbut's you or your hand he's really marking you and showing that you are HIS. So... yeah, he's making extra sure. (I could be wrong here.)

Hi and welcome to the goup.

Well be honored to be groomed by the best. I get a dailey face bath along with a nail traimed massage from my older male cat. I let him do it, I am honored.

NO help on bed time issues. Mine have their own bed room.

Headbutting, I have one cat that will do it. I can't remember why though.

I own 8 beautiful cats. 2 males and 6 females. OOPPPS THey own me really

1. Cats like to taste things that they own. They own you.
They also like to keep things they own clean, maybe they feel you need a good lick as well. Their tongues feel "rough" because they have hairs on them. Look closely, they are really cool feeling once you understand why they have that texture.

2. Elmer would do that also. He loved to be petted by both of his people at the same time. He would often leave to get a snack or when he was tired of us, but if he came back he would not be happy if he could not get his spot between us. Try to redirect or distract them before going to bed, locking them out at night into the rest of the house to cause trouble, or try treats at the bottom end of the bed and then snuggle up closely when they move and refuse to give up your spot, leaving room to the side. We just gave up and gave him the time he wanted from us, it was easier then trying to change his desires.

3. He wants affection and attention. If you give him that when he head butts you, that actually trains him to do it more. Try covering your head with the blanket so he can not head butt you for attention. Try locking him out as well. Try giving him toys or treats before bed somewhere else so it is playtime when you say so instead of on his schedule (your sleep time) and leaving him with toys to keep him busy while you get to sleep. If he does head butt you, be careful of your response because if he gets the ones he expects he will just continue.

If all else fails, give in totally and just be their slaves, sometimes we just do not have a choice.
Sleep is for the weak anyways, have you considered sleeping during the day when cats sleep?

As I sit here and read these with my hubby I have to giggle, you see he has never been owned by a cat!!!...And when I first brought sierra home to him, his first reaction was NOOOO get her outta here...LOL.....and for some reason sierra took to him, now she owns him!!!..He is the reason for me even writing the posts, he always asks Sierra, Sierra why are you licking me, why is it sierra that you come when I call you but you ignore everyone else!!..I sit back and laugh!!! Remember this is the man that said NO!!!....But I did have to explain to him that her previous owners were going to put her to sleep if we did not take her...their reason was she was gettin too old.....So I took her and took her to a vet....found out she was only 7, and in great health...So now I tell him that he was her angel!!! We have now had her almost 2 years!!!Last night we had to deal with our usual routine, of trying to convince the cats that they have their own spots on the bed, and sorry that we cant get any bigger bed king is the biggest size they make!! LOL But in the end the love is worth it

My older cat, Squirt, used to be a complete pain at bedtime. He has since mellowed, although lately he is going through a phase of wanting extra attention when I am trying to go to sleep. I'll tell you what, though. He was once lost outside for 2 weeks, and the house felt so empty and lonely without him. I am really not bugged by most anything either of my cats do. You're right. The love in the house is worth it.
