You know.....I've been anxiously awaiting my W2 so that I could get my taxes done and filed early. I always file them by the last week of January. I've been particularly anxious this year because I am planning to buy a new camera.....which I have been shopping and researching for weeks and getting so excited about it.

So the other day, I went ahead and got everything filled in on my tax software and figured I would add the income details just as soon as my W2 arrived. Well it came today and so I went ahead and completed my taxes and did the final error check and it came back with an error on "non-cash contributions" because Tax Cut says that the final worksheet wasn't complete at the time they put their software out and I would need to get the update before I could file my taxes which will be available sometime in February!

I made a ton of charitable contributions this year and I checked what the difference would be if I didn't take that deduction and it's about $500 difference on my refund if I don't take the deduction. Since I'm not willing to "give up" $500.....I am forced to wait for another 2-3 weeks.....or however long it'll take for them to get their stupid update published so that I can file my return!!!

They KNEW that people would want to start filing their returns in January......they've known this ALL year......so why on earth don't they have it done? ARRRGGGHHHHHHH!!! This just makes me so angry!!

Well that's silly. It seems in this day and age that the software mfg could put an update patch on a website that you could go download to fix the problem. They should be able to fix that in one day I would think.

These computer companies market the product as fast as they can without checking for problems. The consumer does the job for them by finding all these bugs with the program. That way the computer companies dont have to pay someone to find the bugs. You do it for free when you buy the product. Thats what they did with XP when it first came on the market.
Sorry you are having to wait!!!!!

Gosh you folks are good. We haven't completed our Income Tax Returns for 2 years now, so this year we will have to do all 3 at once.

My husband is the world's best procrastinator and my taxes are tied into his which he has done by an accountant.

I've stopped nagging and worrying about it - if Revenue Canada comes calling I'll let him explain why we haven't filed for 3 years! I'm too old and tired to take responsibility for everyone else now! It's my turn to do what I want for a change!

Boy am I glad of the Pay As You Earn system in the UK - it hurts seeing a third of my salary go every month before I even see it, but at least that's the end of it.

I'm sorry you have to do all this - EVERY YEAR!!!! That sucks more than anything.

Beth that is AWFUL! How do you ever itemize? 1/3?? Are you supporting the Queen's art collection, too? Sheesh!

Yeah it hurts at the time, but it means we get a pension when we retire and cost-free healthcare when we need it. So in the past two months when I've seen numerous consultants, plastic surgeons, had surgery and more to come, I don't have to worry about the cost or how we'll pay for it - I've done that times through my salary
.

We don't itemize - it's a one-size fits all programme - everybody just pays that amount of tax and national insurance to the government and they give us the services in return. The only people who itemize are the self-employed who have lots of tax-deductibles they want to claim for.

That's very interesting. The U.S. is so individualistic that a system like that would be a major revolt, like the Boston Tea Party or something. Very interesting to learn! Thanks Beth~~~

Movin' on up!
I use TurboTax on the Web - it came bundled with my computer. This will be my fourth year and I've never had a problem with it.

Well I found out today that it is the IRS and not the vendor. I checked Turbo Tax's website and they are missing the same worksheet. I'm currently using TaxCut and have used it for the last 4 years or so.....and I've never had a problem with it.

So I guess there's not a whole lot I can do about it.
