I opened my door last night and a little cat ran in my house. I would say it was about 6-8 months. It's coat looked gray, but if you looked at it different it looked brown... kindof velvetty looking.. he also had a bobtail. Does this occur naturally, or do people have their cats tails bobbed.. if this occurs naturally what kindof of cat could it be.. I saw him again today also. He/she was very loving, and not shy at all.. and it had a nice looking cold.. not dirty looking or anything.. This leads me to believe that he was owned by someone.. would he most likely have ran out of the house or someone just tossed him out?

Sounds like this little guy could be a Manx. Manx (not all of them) are most often born with little or no tails, even tails with a 'curly' shape. Manx hind legs are traditionally longer than the front, with a compact little body. I hope this guy isnt lost. Maybe he is a stray & needs your TLC? Good luck.

So many possibilities for the little cat - strayed off, chased by a dog or owl, abandoned - if only kitties could talk! Manx are often considered very adventurous & good hunters (my Manx have specialized in mice & snake control). Sometimes people dock a cat's tail to pass it off as a Manx, but like DinahCat said, the hindlegs on a Manx are typically longer (resembling a rabbit) and the ears tend to be wide at the base. You could put the word out on the radio, at animal control & the local vets. I have seen links to advice on helping lost/found animals at this site; maybe the big kitties can advise you. thank you for helping a kitty in need! please let us know how this turns out.

Sounds like kitty has decided to adopt you. I've moved your thread to the Caring for Strays and Ferals forum, where you can get advice on finding kitty's owners or what do to if you decide to keep it.

I had to put him back outside.. I have a habit of bringing in animals and making promises to find them new homes but never do lol.. so my husband wouldnd't let me keep him. I brought him/her in for a few minutes so she can eat in the warm house.. I'm not sure what to do to find her owner, if she has one.. but I've seen her outside for 3 days.. and I live in kindof a bad neighborhood.. so I cant see her belonging to any of the people around here... I checked out her features.. her back legs are definately longer than the front, bobtailed.. and I read something about their colors looking different and they definately do.. So If I were to put her on petfinder.com.. how much should I put the adoption fee for???

If someone was looking for this kitten, I would think they'd be posting "Lost" signs around the neighborhood. Look in the Lost & Found ads in your local paper. Also, try calling the police department - sometimes they keep lists of lost & found animals (our PD does this).

If it were me, I wouldn't put the kitten back outside. I know you have a situation with your husband (lots of us do!!!). A friendly, purebred Manx kitten should be highly adoptable. Do a search for the nearest Manx rescue group (sadly, there are rescue groups for virtually every breed of cat) or no-kill shelter and bring the kitten there if no family claims him. It's far better to do that than to leave a kitten on his own to take his chances in a bad neighborhood.

Sounds to be a Manx. I own two very hyper happy Manx kittens. They are very loving. I bet this guy has a home. Ask around to be sure. No hope consider adopting the little fella. Manx tend to pick a person or animal to bond with for life. Maybe he/she pick you. But try to find it's owners by any means possible, ok.
I'd die if I lost my 2 manx kits. I spent so much time nursing them to health.

Yeah! Be sure to keep him seperated from any other felines incase hes got any bad diseases or parasites. I hope you end up keeping him, he sounds cute. I want to see some pictures too!
Best of luck with the little fellah!

Well, I definately wont be able to keep him myself.. I have 2 cats right now.. I had four.. that I found outside..spent about 400 bucks on those 2 cats that I didn't get to keep..finally found them a home recently.. after many months.. plus I have a dog.. and a lot of other animals.. so I know I cant keep him.. but I will definately find him a good home.

Could someone help me on how much to list her as on petfinder.. I know regular cats fee is about 15.00, but shes not really a regular cat so I didn't know if I should put her as more or not.

Is the $15 fee for cats that are spayed/neutered?? I would make sure you charge an appropriate fee and require spaying/neutering.

I have an american bobtail cat-they are highly desirable cats-but looking at this cat's picture I'm not sure if this is truely a bobtail-my cat (Bobber's) tail is a good 2 inches in length plus she is small in stature but very muscular (she weighs 9#) . It really doesn't make a difference as she sounds like this cat is/was someone's pet. I'd watch the newspapers or look for signs. Or sad to say-someone knows you have cats and they dumped her on your property. Good luck.
