Just wondering when a kittens eyes change color. I was reading on a kitten site that they stay blue until 3 or 4 weeks of age.

CJ will be 8 weeks on Friday and his eyes are still bright blue. Do you think they will stay this color or still change?

I don't know, but I DO know that Oliver's eves were green at 8 weeks. I remember this specifically because I named him Oliver because of his olive green eyes.

I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your question. I've moved your thread to the Health and Nutrition forum where hopefully you'll find your answer!

I believe it can take up to 12 weeks for final eye color in kittens to develop.

First of all, I like your cat's name... it's cute..... what's CJ stand for? If you take a look at my screen name, it's CJandBilly. That's the name of my two cats..... CJ is a female, though.

And, as for your question, when my CJ was 8 weeks old, her eyes were blue. (When I first got her litter [she was from a litter of strays], I called her Blue, because of her Blue eyes. Now, her name is Calamity Jane.) Then a few weeks to a month later, they began to change. She then had one brown eye, and one green eye. Since then, her brown eye has become orange, where it will probably stay like permanately. (Her mother had orange eyes.) As for my other cat, Billy, his eyes changed much sooner than my CJ's, so, I guess it all depends on the cat.

Click on the links in my signature... those are pics of CJ and Billy (Wild Bill).
Although, you can't see her eyes. Here's one where you can see her eyes a little better. It was taken a few months ago, though, and that was before her brown eye had really turned a brighter orange.

CJ stands for Casey Jones -- a Grateful Dead song. He is a Medium Hair?? I'm not sure. He's quite the little fluffernutter (one of my nicknames for him
) but I wouldn't say he was a long haired. He is black and white.

His eyes have changed a little bit since we got him. They were pretty dark before and they have gotten lighter over the past two weeks.

They sort of look like a mix between this color and this color.

Very cute. He was a stray that a client brought into work so I have no idea what his mom or dad look like. He has 3 other brothers and sisters that are coming in on Friday so I will have to see if their eyes have changed at all. There was CJ who is black and white, another black and white kitty, a full white and a full black kitty.

Does different color fur like that affect the eye color?

Well, no one can really tell you what color their eyes are going to be, because no one knows. Like I said above, my CJ started out with blue eyes, and now she is a two-tone, without any blue whatsoever. The most I can tell you, is to wait and see.
Ummmm....
I'd say it's a definite color after 12 weeks old. Probably after 10 weeks, but I'd say 12 just to be sure. However, it can slightly change shade after that, but not color. At least, all of the above is the expirience I've had in raising kittens. I've raised 3 litters when I was younger, and two most recently. So, that's my advice. Hope it was helpful!

Usually black and white cats have green, orange, or yellow eyes. Some do have blue eyes, Peppurrs are almost blue and he will be four in March! Zeus' eye color didn't change until he was about 12 weeks old.

I never gave eyes much thought when picking a cat out. I wonder if I will be able to hold out for a real "breed" of cat next time or if we will end up opening our home and heart to another stray. Maybe we will get lucky and get a stray cat with papers. I guess sometimes though you take what comes to you because your ment to have it and don't get a choice.

Another consideration? There are way too many purebreds dumped into shelters as well, papered or not, folks dump 'em for the same reasons, and many dedicated rescue groups do their best to get them back out of will-kill, and foster them until they can have a new forever home.
Adopting from a breed rescue group is an option I hope folks will consider too.

My family has a wonderful exotic shorthair that we picked up from a shelter. But he's so full of personality, he's a great little guy. We fell in love with him as soon as we walked in to the shelter, we wanted to pick up a stray but he was just so fun (not to mention funny looking). You never know what you'll find, he was surrendered because his owner was a kid who went to college and his mom couldn't keep him. So we lucked out :-)
