I am starting to think its time to find Buddy a new home so that KC can have a peaceful life. This does not seem fair to her in the least and it surely is not bringing me any peace either. The only one who doesn't seem to mind the arrangement much is Buddy unless I am trying to keep him seperated so KC can eat or with me so he doesn't chase her over and over.

I am very attached to him of course but I can not stop thinking about KC who is such a timid creature being terrorized each day. When I read stories here I try to tell myself its all normal and fine and they will work it out, and I have hope again.. and then out of the blue Buddy decides he has to start up again. I even feel that its wrong of me to want to find him a better home, like I am giving up on him but I am not sure myself or KC can deal with this little spazzoid.
i totally understand this - Cable's always chasing Pixel, biting at her, etc - but then other times i see Pixel washing Cable, or snuggling with her. how long has Buddy been there? maybe KC will get used to him & vice-versa...

He has been here I think about a month or so.. I don't really keep track of time that often. They need to be introduced while being in adjoining rooms and all that under a door.. except I dont live in a hotel with adjoining rooms
Not sure what to do about them at this point, but going to get more litter pans and feliway diffusers and maybe spray and keep trying.

*laugh* Those have actually healed up pretty well, not even sure if hes got scars anymore.. guess I should go check. I was very supprised to find the hair on his ears grew back, his paw pads all healed up from cracks and are smooth and soft now.

That was such a beautiful story of how Buddy came into your lives.
Buddy is a real handsome looking boy! I sure hope everything works out soon for all of you. Best wishes to Buddy and KC, hopefully living in harmony soon!

We finally were able to order some Feliway plugin's, lets hope those do the trick and allow KC to not feel so timid around him and in general. I struggle with wondering if he needs a new home but we keep trying to give him time and hope we can get them to like each other.
We are also switching them over to a sensitive food formula as well, as Buddy keeps puking..but I think it might be more then just that because he also huffs or coughs after drinking sometimes.

You all have such great looking cats as well, it makes me wish I had a real digital camera so I could get some of Buddy and KC instead of using my bad webcam.

Update: Just got a lazer pointer from the pet store.. Buddy loves it.. even KC showed some attention and they were able to interact slightly without any apparently negative responses.

Feliway plugins... well not sure if we got "bad" ones or they suck, but I can notice no apparent benifit from using one in the room "scared/timid" KC resides in.. and perhaps even notice Buddy being more agressive at times. Oh well.. such is life. They are still slowly adjusting none the less with efforts on everyones part to teach them they really do like each other. :p

If you don't have a lazer pointer.. go get one, they are fun!

What a lovely story. We too took one of our cats that came to our front door to the shelter initially and just had to go back to get him. I think Buddy and Inca were meant to be with us. Inca is my cat. It is just the way God intended. Thank you for taking Buddy in. I am sure he is one happy cat right now.

awww...buddy is so sweet, and what a nice story.

i hope that things will work out- sometimes it takes a very long time for cats to get along, especially when there are more than 2 involved (you said you have 3, correct?).

my parents have had probably 30 or so cats over my lifetime (i'm 36); there were always some that didn't get along. my parents separated those that fought, but it seems to me that when they are left together (and observed carefully), it's best to do that rather than separate them.

the feliway has worked wonders for my kitties (well...most of the time). are there actual spats or just "posturing"? ashley occasionally has to come tearing into the room and chase emily, but there is never any contact (that i'm aware of). they love each other to pieces, although there have been many times they have been upset around each other (after vet visits, etc.).

my mom and dad got a "companion" for their first kitty, and they fought until the day they died! (natural death, ages 16 and 17, a year apart). they tolerated each other though, and it worked out, essentially.

good luck to you and buddy!

Thanks.

We had 3 when Buddy first showed up but Elmer has since passed so we are back to 2.

We have had to replace some outlets but now have 2 plugin diffusers running and since adding the second one KC has started to come out more and become bolder. Perhaps they are working.

Buddy has taken to actually trying to claw and bite sometimes, but also seems to just "get in her face" other times and still yet others just wants to "play" by tenderly sticking out a paw. He has also tried to lick her or sniff her, but for the most part if she realizes its him she freaks out and hisses or swipes at him.

Thanks, I hope they continue to tolerate each other and learn that they do need to share this area but it is going slowly. I still have hope though, when hes not being "bad" Buddy is such a great companion and so is KC.

it sounds like they are still in the "getting to know you" stage.

elmer's passing on might be affecting the whole issue, especially if he and KC were especially close. cats can mourn the loss of companions for a very long time. i've even seen it in cats that had apparently hated each other.

take care!

Update:

Buddy has moved into a new home after Casey was unable to come to terms with him being here. He is now living with another cat who apparently is a bit more open to having a friend then Casey was. He has someone who will play with him now instead of run from him and hopefully he will not be as bored as he was while he was with us.

Casey on the other hand has turned around a lot and actually gone back to her old personality a bit which was very attention seeking and affectionate. She is also taking better care of herself and not as scared which is nice to see. It is obvious that she was just unable to cope with the addition of Buddy.

I will and do miss Buddy a ton, but I know he is in a better place for his needs and it was the best thing we could do in these circumstances after months of trying in vain to get them to accept each other. He was such a smart cat and I had him trained to not only shake hands but wave bye-bye as well.. I suppose just in time for him to leave to find his new home.
So long Buddy, have fun in your new home with your new family and kitty friend.
