My cousin recently became engaged to a kid who I graduated with. Klayton is nice and polite, though I don't particularly care for my cousin. Anyway, Klay is in the air force and was sent out to sea, for 6 months, and then he would be finished with the service. My grandma just called to tell me that he slipped on the ship and fell. He fractured his hip severely and may have to have a metal plate put in. He was helo'd off the ship and will be laid up for up to 2 months healing. I know my cousin is horribly upset, but I can't help but think that this is a good thing. With as many people dying over in Iraq every day, maybe this was Gods way of protecting him from having to fight over there. I am actually rather happy he was hurt, becuase of that. If he would have joined in battle in Iraq, and something would have happened, he would be the 3rd guy in my graduating class of 52 to die in combat.

Just thought I would share these thoughts.

Funny thing about silver linings -- sometimes it's hard to recognize them. I think this is one.
Bummer that he was hurt and I hope he heals well and as quickly as possible.

Amber, you are doing a good job of looking at the big picture! And I am so sorry to learn about your classmates. I have satellite TV and watch the alternative channels - their news shows our deceased servicemen being loaded up for return to Germany, and home, and the impact is like a jackhammer on my heart. Seeing such pictures, it's hard to think in terms of "number of casualties", because I realize that each bundle is someone's son/daughter, spouse, friend, coworker, etc...a human being who lived, loved and was loved...................

Everything happens for a reason, I believe. Although, it's horrible that this guy is probably in some severe pain, and will be for quite a while, it seems to me to be a blessing in disquise.

Sorry he got hurt but hopefully he will recover quickly. I understand where you are coming from. One of my friends husbands was killed yesterday in Iraq.

Sorry your friend got hurt. Yes, it is strange how things work out for the better sometimes even though it doesn't seem like it at the time.

Char, I'm sorry to hear about your friends husband, how sad.
