I live with two cats. We share a studio apartment, with space at a premium, and places to hide litterboxes precious few... so I have decreed that one litterbox shall be sufficient. I take it upon myself to clean it at least twice daily, and I haven't had any problems yet (although the boyz are still little, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed).

As a great majority of cats are inclined to do, mine follow me into the bathroom whenever I go in there. Over the past few days, however, I have had to shut them out of the bathroom when I'm cleaning the litterbox. Hunter starts pawing at the litterbox, and looking in consternation at the litterbox tidbits that end up going into the trash bag and taken away. He will sometimes give a little mewing that says "Mom, those are my TREASURES! I was SAVING them! WHY to you have to throw them away????" He tries to get them out of the litter scoop and back into the box so he can bury them...

Anyone else's cats attached to their own pee and poop????

L.S. just has an obsession with playing with the litter scoop. The minute I start moving around the litter, he's in the box playing and trying to catch it, or trying to knock the stuff off the scoop. I think he does it because he thinks it's a toy more than him trying to "save" it.

Your boys sounds like they're a barrel of laughs!

First of all your kitties are adorable!! One of ours is a "Hunter" too. Mine don't do anything quite like that, but feel strongly about using the litter whilst I am cleaning it! hahahahah

Sophies terrible when it comes to cleaning the litterbox!.

As soon as i've scooped she jumps back on, has a quick dig, a lie in it, then a proper dig and promplty has a wee!

That is funny and it's a pity you have to do the cleaning without them watching.
Well, my Skinny is also funny when it's scooping time. I have two boxes side by side in the balcony. She will watch me clean them both and then decides they look better used. I hang around waiting for her to finish. She will pee in one and then transfer to the other one to poo. Then she will watch me scoop . The moment I stand up she will walk over both boxes making sure she leaves pawprints. What is that all about?

Oh, no! I have quite the opposite problem. One of my three, Red Cat, is an absolute fanatic that the litterbox must be CLEAN! I have four boxes for three cats, and have to clean them three times a day. If the box he wants to use does not meet his standards of cleanliness, he will wail in his very loud voice or demand to go outside. I must get every tiny little particle of soiled litter out or he throws a hissy fit.

Well, Red Cat has certainly got you trained. Do you never leave the house?

You're right there! He has been training me for six years. And you are just about right regarding me not leaving the house. I'm retired and am a "home body," just enjoying my sewing, reading and the like. So I often don't go out more than once a week in the winter. When I work in the yard summers, the boys go out, too.

I have 2 litter boxes. My cats follow me to each box and watch me scoop out their waste. I get the feeling sometimes that they are "supervising" me and making sure I do it right. Sometimes they jump into it before I take out their waste and other times they wait patiently until I'm finished.
