I found this little guy a few weeks ago in a parking lot. We took him to the vet last week for a check up, shots, and the vet recommended he go ahead and be neutered while we were there since he was at least 6 months old.

There are some larger pics of the problem here.

The bare spots under his eyes came up a couple days before the vet visit. The vet thought it might be ringworm, but the test came out negative. The feline leukemia test was also negative.

The only problem we found out he had was ear mites, and the vet figured Shadow might have scratched the hair off, but I haven't seen him scratching much...

I just noticed the bumps on his nose today. They look like some sort of growth. And since he has been lying around more than usual today, I am worried. Any idea what it might be? I tried calling the vet, but they're closed today.

Thanks for your help!

Looks like where he got into a fight and got clawed and the fur fell off. I have seen cats rescued from shelters that look like this. The bump on the nose could be anything, a spreading infection, a bite from a bug as the kitty lay sleeping on the ground? Hard to say-

The poor thing.. You don't think the missing fur part is linked to mange do you?

I bet the bumps are from a fight and he's healing with funny scabs.. But Hissy is right, It's hard to say.

I hope Shadow will be alright.

If that is mange, he should have a skin test. There are a couple types of mange and if it is a specific type if is very very hard to treat. I think he might need a trip back to the vet and I am supprised they didn't mention that as a possible cause?

Thanks for your suggestions, everyone.

I called the vet last night, and he asked me to email him the pictures. I told him about my concern that it was feline mange, and he said he didn't think it would be that since it popped up so quickly. He thinks it's probably an allergic reaction to something. He told me to give him Benadryl three times a day and, if it's not significantly better by Monday, bring him into the office.

Thanks for all the well wishes! Shadow thanks you too!

I'll post an update after Monday.

Just a thought, but our cat's sister suffered severe hair loss after eating tuna fish for the first time - she had one meal of it, and most of her hair fell out over the course of about 2 - 3 days. I remember getting a frantic email warning. It grew back in, but she's not allowed any fish now. A lot of cats are allergic to beef. Flea bite allergies are often encountered. Jamie is allergic to beet pulp, which is found in many dry foods, and soy. Good luck, and keep us updated!
