Okay, most people know there are a lot of lurkers out there who are afraid to post for one reason or another... but for those who do post, what are your fears for posting; however irrational? I'm going to make the poll so that you can pick more than one. I won't be able to think of all possible answers, but I'm not going to bother having "Other" as a selection. You'll just have to tell us... or not.

Um, most common I think would be things like people think your an idiot, dont identify or find absoutly no humor in your posts when trying to be funny. But then again that could just be me. Anyways, I like to think I am being somewhat helpful if nothing else and thats really the bottom line when it comes to the animals that cant help themselves and the people seeking to keep them well and happy.

Hmmm... I kind of rushed the poll choices. I should have thought of those.

I think I am most afraid of being misunderstood...

Like earlier today I think I gave folks the impression I was about to mad spam the board when I was *trying* to be cute

and of course, sounding like an idiot is always a concern

I am always scared that I might say too much and that a random lurker who doesnt register might see and get my info and begin to stalk me
... I am also afraid of hurting another member with what I say or have said. I post on some military spouses/girlfriends forums and they have OPSEC to protect them... Here, we dont have anything.

Neat poll!

I try to be careful about my personal information because this is a public forum. Sometimes my sense of humor is 'off'.

I have commentitis, so I comment in spite of those two reasons.

I did too, Sandra. I've killed quite a few threads. I'm not sure if my brilliance cannot be surpassed, or if everyone is scratching their heads in disbelief.

Oh well, someone has to be last...

Well we're not going to let that happen here.

Great question!! I had not considered it before now.

Me?

I'm not too worried about an internet stalker. I had one, and he made some massively sad posts about me; a friend of mine pointed out his posts on a site, and I researched them. I researched him, called the cops, and they talked to him and then to his psychiatrist (he has some significant mental illnesses). The posts he made were rather violent, but I see them more as sad because of his illnesses.

I deal with the public all the time, and so have become accustomed to handling myself. I am a blackbelt, and I do have arms at home...so it's not terribly likely something will actually happen to me.

As for other issues, if someone thinks I'm an idiot, I can't help that. If I kill a thread, oh well. If my family/boss saw my posts, they'd say "yep, she says that here, too!" If someone disagrees with me, if they bring to the discussion some sort of valid reason and back it up, then they have a chance to change my mind.

I don't have any fears about internet posting.

Best-
Michele

Ryan,

Interesting poll and interesting results.

I just post, I try to help and I stay who I am. What you see on the board is what you get in real life. I am very direct that is just my nature, especially when trying to help an animal in need.

My fear- that no one would reply to my posts. Happened quite a few times.
And the feeling is not good.
And not gaining any friends.

I think "fear" is too strong a word in my case. Pretty well all of the options are things I think about (well, except the first two -- if they see my posts, they see my posts -- who cares?), but I don't worry about any of them. Nonetheless, I am one of the "thread killer" votes, because I'm disappointed when a thread peters out and I'm the last, but it's not something I'd get worked up about -- after all, it's going to stop sometime, somebody's post has to be the last.

Always worried about upsetting someone. Especially since you can't tell how people are trying to come across. Something I say may not be meant to be rude or offensive and someone else thinks it was.

All you people who are afraid you are going to hurt someone's feelings if you post. Unless you blast them or break one of the guidelines here, I really don't see that happening. It sounds to me as if you are concerned enough to feel this way, then you are compassionate enough to think about your posts before you make one.
