One of my kitties has started sneezing a lot lately and I don't know why. I really just noticed it today and I'm not sure if she is sick or has a cold or what. She seems to be acting normal, but maybe a little bit lazier than usual and not as friendly. Is it possible for cats to have colds? Is there any way help her get rid of the cold like giving her medicine or should I just let her be and let her body fight it off?

Btw, none of the other 3 cats show any signs of being sick, so I'm hoping that it's just her and that whatever it is isn't contagious. Has anyone experienced this before or have any suggestions? Thanks!

Cats can indeed get colds.. upper respiratory infections. Does she have any gooey eyes or stuffy nose? Eating ok? Some severe cat colds require antibiotics so you should make sure she doesnt have the symptoms I mentioned above along with the sneezing.

Miko and Kionu just got over a cold. They had an eye cold and was given an eye ointment twice a day for 5 days. Miko was the first one to get the cold. Kionu caught it the day after and ended up passing it to my Mom's cat.

Even though your cat may be acting normal, I would get her to the vet as soon as possible. She could pass the cold on to the other cats.

I agree that your kitty needs to see the vet. Cats are very private about illness, it is in their best interest in the wild to hide any illness. So, the signs they exhibit can be very subtle. The very signs you have noticed, the decrease in activity and the irritablity, are actually signs of illness in a cat. She may be running a fever. She needs to be assessed by a professional. Make sure that she is eating and drinking. Your vet will want to know about how her appetite is, her activity level, and her elimination habits and if any of these have changed. Since it is Friday, best to get her in before the weekend. Let us know what you find out. Becky

I had the same thing happen to my Jinx last week and I immediately went to the vet just in case (I've pnly been a cat owner for about 2 months now, these things make me very nervous!) So the vet gave me anti-histamine type medecine but said it wasnt a respiratory infection so just keep an eye on how much she's sneezing.

As it turns out I discovered after a few days that it was actually an allergy to my Glade Plug-Ins that I had just refilled. My advice (I'm still a beginner mind-you!) is to see if anything has changed in the house since she started sneezing. I had never heard of cats being allergic to Plug-Ins but at least it wasn't a serious cold or anything.

BEST OF LUCK!

Yep I had the same thing happen when I invested in a scent machine. Two of my cats began to sneeze a lot. I knew they weren't sick, just sneezing, so I turned off the machine and put it up. The sneezing stopped.
