WOW!!! I pray I do not have that woman's fate when child bearing time comes! The poor dear. I sure hope that all goes well with him although circumstances seem unusual.

That's too funny!! You really can't go by that though. My husband is huge! He's 6'3" and 265lbs - not fat at all just the football build body type. Broad shoulders, big head and just a big guy. Anyway he only weighed 6.7lbs at birth. Our son only weighed 6.9lbs at birth and his head was only 11 1/2 inches. I think most newborns head measures about 13 inches?

Tell her not to go by that - you never know!

Do you mean that literally or figuratively speaking?
Don't most guys all walk around with big heads anyway, like they're God's gift to women?

Because her first children were more normal weight, my guess is she must have developed diabetes, as Kellye said she thought she thought they said on the news.

When women with diabetes are pregnant, the babies, which don't have diabetes, develop to be unusually large because they process the mom's sugar with their pancreas. Babies of diabetic mothers are usually born via c-section (as in this case) or induced as soon as their lungs are developed. A friend had a 13 pound 7 ounce baby via induced labor - and that was just after seven months, as soon as his lungs could work on their own. They had to break his collar bones to get him out because it wasn't c-section. How horrible for both of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But he only had to stay in the hospital a few days (they're usually born with jaundice), he healed right up (as did she) and though he was such a big baby, he fell into normal growth patterns and past the age of two or so, he was normal for his age.

...I fear having Jason's babies.. we tend to make references about fat-head babies. He needed to be delivered via c-section because lets just say... His head WAS a casaba melon. -.-...

Literally - she DOES date the "God's gift to women" type.

After reading your response I must say.....I can't joke about this! I think I'll pray for both of them instead.

May God watch over both of them, and restore them back to, or keep them in, good health. Amen!

A very large baby, almost always over 10 pounds is very common in women who experience gestational diabetes...or diabetes that comes on only when pregnant. After delivery the diabetes "goes away", but the mom does have a slightly higher chance of developing diabetes later in life. This mom did have gestational diabetes..heard it on the radio last night.

Not sure what qualifies you to make such a statement, but women with diabetes can give birth to babies that are much larger than normal. My friend Bettina gave birth several years ago to a 14 pound baby, and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Travis is growing up just fine, with only the regular infant sicknesses, nothing catastrophic.

My brother was a big baby -- almost 10 lbs. And now he is small for his age. I do have the funniest picture of him though when he was first born. He had a little hat on his big ol noggin and he looked just like Cartman from South Park!!

I knew someone who delivered a 13.6 pound boy VAGINALLY. She had the episiotomy from hell. Ouch!
