That are a recording saying "This is Mrs. So and So, please call me back at this number about an important matter....."

I always hang up before it's done because I figure if it's anything really important they would have a live person on the other end!

So I'm wonderdering if anyone else did get that kind of phone call, did ya call the number to see what it was about. I figure it's probably a telemarketers new thing.

telemarketers. I think it should be illegal.

call the National Do Not Call list at 1-888-382-1222 to have your phone taken off the list. Then it is illegal for telemarketers to call you at all. It takes about 45 days to take effect, though. or, go to www.donotcall.gov

Movin' on up!
I am a collection agent, for an automobile finance company. We use an autodialer, that screens out busy signals and calls not answered after a certain number of rings. When the phone is picked up, a recording says, "Please hold for *********** Financial." The call is then connected to an available agent. This way, fewer agents can make more calls, collecting more delinquent payments and helping keep down interest rates and car prices.

Incidentally, this also keeps me off of the streets, out of trouble and off of food stamps.

Cindy, I don't think it's a collection agency. They don't say to hold on, just to call back.

I thought we did sign up for the do not call list...maybe this is a new way they can get past that law, because that way you're calling them, they're not calling you.

I received those calls before putting my number on the Do Not Call list, but not anymore.

I'm not sure how I heard this but it has something to do with you calling them back that confirms your telephone number. When I'd received one a while back, I called it, and it was an airline giving free tickets to any place of my choice. So I responded with "If they're free, then why do you have to call me to warn me about it, just send them".

I'm sure it's some type of scam I wouldn't call them back nowadays.

Some collections agents use those messages too. In order to combat that we've left a detailed message on our answering machine and if you don't follow those instructions you don't get called back. We never answer the phone unless we know who it is also. Unknowns don't get answered.

I hang up on those calls. And on the free vacations too.

Well I really don't remember the last time I had a phone solicitation, but I never received one of those pre-recorded or automated calls... and I'm not jealous or envious of anyone who did.
Once, I do remember listening to my messages and having to listen to someone pitch to me about vacuum's. There's no way I'd ever call anyone back who left a message like that. -same goes with free vacations
