My hubby is a delivery driver. My friend Shazbot was here, with his cell phone. Our boss called, and said he had to come in because my husband was just in a car wreck, and she(My boss) had to get his pizza and get it to the house it was being delivered to. Actually that order might be a remake cuz if the pizza flew off the seat, we can't deliver it that way, with the toppings all over. So he left, but left me his phone so I could call hubby.

(That's exactly why he always has my cell phone on him at work for situations like this) From what I understand right now, he was turning, and some guy hit him. The officers got there just then, so he had to get off the phone. He said our back end is all muched. I asked him if he was okay, he said yeah, but sounded shook up. Well... so much for transportation.

He's got 2 herniated discs in his lower back, and I really hope what ever jolt there was didn't hurt them. Small jolts can put him in bed for days. I hope he is okay. I hope we can get a nother car soon. We really cannot live without a car. No car means NO money. He is a delivery driver, and you can't deliver anything without wheels.

thanks for letting me vent.

This just sucks because I am way out here at my house, and he's somewhere in town. I wanna talk to him, and see him.

OMG!! I hope he's okay, and I hope that you guys will be compensated for the car!!! *hugs* If he starts hurting, the other guys insurance would have to pay for a chiropacter or something

Oooh. I hope he's okay. The main thing is that he isn't seriously injured. My sister-in-law was just in a bad accident - a new driver overlooked a stop sign and ploughed into her. The car was totalled, but thankfully nobody was hurt. Somebody's insurance should cover the damage, but all the red tape is a pain.

I hadn't thought about that. I hope the dumb@$$ who hit him DOES have insurance. There are so many around here who think it's okay to drive without. I only work 3 hours tonight, we'll see what happens. If he can't deliver, that is going to cut into our income A LOT!! Tips rule!! Maybe I will have to get a job waiting tables to make up for the difference.....

SIGH!!!!

I just got off the phone with hubby. He's okay, shaken up, and upset. Prettymuch what happened, he was making a left, a car flew around some other cars and hit him, spun him around in a 180. So the guys must have been going really fast. Our car is totaled(SP?) And on top of that, the cop gave my hubby a ticket, wich INSTANTLY LOOSES HIM HIS JOB!!!!!!!! So... now... no car. He has no job. He is going to contest it though. But until it is cleared up, he cannot deliver for Dominos. That is the best job he can have with his back, making the kind of money he was doing construction. He cannot do that anymore.

So... My stress level just went through the roof. No car.

If he gave your husband a ticket, does that mean he's at fault? I've never seen the victim get a ticket.
Anyway, I hope he gets better soon and hopefully he won't lose his job.

if any driver gets a moving violation (or any driving ticket) they get fired.

You are right, they usually don't ticket the victim, but at the moment I don't know exactly what happened yet. Just the quick, this is what happened, and he was upset. The guy hit him in the @$$end, I was always under the impression that if you get rear ended it's not your fault...

Not necessarily...My grandmother was recently in an accident. She was driving and the guy infront of her went to make a left and instead of going into the lane designated for that he stopped dead in the middle of the road and she slammed into the back of him. She tried to stop.. there were huge skid marks in the road from where she slammed on her breaks. Yet, the police officer still gave her a ticket -- for careless driving -- because *she* hit *him*.
Apparently, you are supposed to be in "control" of your vehicle at all times.

But what are you supposed to do when someone stops infront directly in front of you?? And this kid was a brand new driver.. only had his license for a few weeks or months. And granted, my grandmother is old. But I've driven with her many times and she is a very cautious driver. Overly cautious. And yet, she still got a ticket.

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
Tia i'm pleased he's ok though and thats the main thing!.

Watch him tonight though incase shock sets in because a few years ago a 40 tonne lorry hit me and my then boyfriends car which spun us around and bounced us on to the central reservation.

The police don't know how we walked away with no cuts or bruises but the car was a write off.

It wasn't until a couple of hours later that the shock of what happend hit us!.

Hopefully he got the name of the other driver and his insurance company. That's pretty sucky that he got a ticket-I hope the driver did too. Make sure he rests tonite as tomorrow he might feel worse. I've been in 2 accidents when it was the other driver's fault and your heart's a pumping and you may feel good-but several (at least 8 hr) later the pain started. I was lucky that the other people had insurance-but thats too bad about your car. When you go looking for another one-check the price out first on kbb.com (if its used) I work in auto finance and we feel that sit is pretty good-or PM me if you need more help. Both of you take care.

My boss (the gm not the owner) was just here with my hubby. She was trying to talk him into going to the hospital, because she too knows how back problems are. He refused. She asked me if I might be able to talk him into going in. He came back in the house, and I asked him how his back felt. He said fine. I asked if it felt at all tight or anything... He didn't answer. He mumbled something, then said if I wanted him to go to the hospital, that he would go. I said yeah. Even if he isn't hurt at all, it makes me and my boss feel lots better.

So, he is headed there now. I talked with my boss, and according to a whitness that was there, the guy that hit my hubby is usualy under the influance of drugs and alcohol, so she is going to see if she can get the other guy's blood tested. (I don't know if she can do that or not?) They also said it looked like it was the other guy's fault. I don't know... We will get it all figured out. I just hate to NOT be with him at this time. I got to see him, hug him, and talk to him, so I feel better.

Going to look at our car. It's such an ugly car, I hate it anyway. We got it for free from his dad, so we aren't really out money... but we are out a car

But.... she was at fault wasn't she? Your supposed to give yourself adequate space to stop should anything happen to the car infront of you. Thats what I've been told anyways. Myrage, I've also always known it as if your rearended, it's the other guys fault.

OMG!!! I am relieved for you, and him, that he is OK for now... Yeah, watch him for at least a week, as often, the pain etc. doesn't really kick in right away due to the shock of the accident. As far as him getting cited--THAT is a travesty for sure!!! I would DEFINITELY call or go visit the police dept ASAP and see what the heck that officer's idea was on the entire thing. Maybe you could get him to change it???? Not sure, it may have to go to court, but if so, I REALLY do hope it gets thrown out, and I am hoping and praying your DH can work something out with his boss. THAT is awful too.

You ARE in my thoughts and prayers...

Thankyou, I will definately check into that. We will be going for a used car. The plan was... when we got our return, he was going to use that for a down payment on a newer nicer car for me, then work on his other car, fix it up, and use that one for delivering, and mine for general use. I'm not sure what we will do now. My boss is going to see if anything can be done to keep my hubby his job. He's one of the best drivers, and one of the best workers. She's beside herself with worry right now because she depends on him more then other drivers
I imagine her stress level may be higher then mine at the moment. She's dealing with a different aspect of the situation.

Yes, I will keep an eye. I work 4:30 to 7:30. I might get off a little early because of what happened. Once they leave the hospital, she will decide if he will come home and hang here, or if she will let him work out the rest of his shift (on the inside). I think he should come home and rest, wich is probably what she will do. But if he ends up on the inside, I will push for him to be on phone duty. See if I can set it up so he can SIT in the office and take phone calls for us while we do the lifting, twisting, and running.

Thankyou all for your concern. I know this is a very small thing in the scheme of things, and in life, but it's kinda world shattering to me at the moment. You guys are great.

Sorry to say, but with a left turn, the police will ususally assume it's your fault. The same thing happened to us, it was said to be our fault because we were doing a left turn. Even though we were going on a green arrow and the other driver went through a red light, unless you have witnesses to support it, the police just assumes that whoever is doing a left turn is at fault.

She wasn't tailgating or anything but what are you supposed to do when you're going 40 mph and someone stops dead in front of you?
