My shaded silver Persian, Jinxy, who is 5 1/2 months old, was eating yesterday and started going nuts as if something were caught in his mouth. I looked in his mouth and noticed his gums were bleeding, but couldn't tell why.
I also noticed that on one side of his mouth he had 2 of those long teeth (fangs) next to eachother.
Weird!! Later, when I fed him dinner, the same thing happened; he was going nuts and bleeding. This time I noticed that one of those double fangs was gone. Now he has one fang on each side like any other kitty. But his gums were very red on both sides of his mouth. I am guessing that this is normal and that they lose teeth like children, however, it has been a very long time since I have had a kitten and I just don't remember.

Can anyone tell me if kitties lose teeth and bleed so I can relax???

Thank you.

Kittens have 26 baby teeth that begin to grow at about 2 to 3 weeks of of age. A kitten's
30 permanent teeth begin to emerge at 3 to 4 months.

Hope this answers your question.

Our little Gus is also stating to cut his adult teeth. He is nearly 6 months old. I noticed last night that his bottom right fang has another grown out behind it nearly the same length as the old. Both his upper fangs have a hint of new fangs poking out from the gums. My sister is really hoping to find a few of his baby teeth as they fall out, but I am under the impression that they swallow the old much of the time.

Thanks. That pretty much answers my questions!!

He is not bleeding anymore from his gums and now that I know it is normal, I'm sure he was just growing some and losing some teeth!!

I love this site!!

Thanks again.
