If you read my other post about my dad leaving, here is a update. We were going to get him into residential treatment then all the other help we could get him and our family when he got back.(counceling, treatment, hospitalization, ect.) because my mum decided he couldn't come back until he changed, and got lots of help. He has been calling from San Diego off and on. He was going to work on getting back here and he agree'd to my mothers plan to get him and us help.....
BUT...then he calls today from the hospital crying saying he had gaingreen and they had to amputate his right leg below the knee. He is a diabetic who has not been taking care of his diabetes and he was getting really soar legs and feet and it turned into gaingreen and he could not walk anymore on it so they brought him to the ER. So me and my mum are really really scared, she talked to the social worker at the Hospital, i guess he has to be there for about one week, then he has to go to rehabilation for about 2 weeks. He is there all alone and very scared too, and he just cries and cries on the phone.
So we need board magic that we all get through this and we find a way to get my dad home now that he has special needs.

Sorry for long post guys, but we really need board magic and support.

More positive vibes coming your way.
Good luck with the research - I know it will help. I am sure there must be others in your position so maybe there are some organisations that could help you emotionally and with pratical support.

You never know, this shock may be just what he needs to force him into taking his health seriously. And if he can stabilise himslef then lots of amputees live good normal lives. Good luck to all of you.

I'm not a nurse or anything, but I have met amputatee's who have continued to lead full active lives. I know the shock of going through this is very difficult right now, but perhaps your dad can be fitted with an artificial leg once he has had enough time to heal. He'd even be able to walk again. It probably seems like the end of the world to your family right now, but it really isn't....

Here's some cyber-hugs for everyone...

My thoughts are with your dad and your family. A close friend of mine developed a staph infection two and a half years ago which almost killed him. His leg was amputated above the knee to save his life, and I'm happy to report that he's now doing wonderfully - he can walk with a prosthesis, drive a car, really live a normal life. I wish your father the same.

Prayers and thoughts of strength for you, your dad and your whole family. I'm so, so sorry to hear about the amputation. Diabetes is a really serious disease, and it requires a lot of care and management. My dad's diabetic (Type I) and has been since the age of 9. He just turned 73. I'm so sorry your dad's learning this so late and in such a devastating way, but I really hope that this will help him turn things around. My catholic friends always say that God never gives us more than we can handle.
